Q:Why doesn't this product listing properly state that this can only be used on concrete, stone, tile. And is not safe for use on wood flooring or carpet?

Answer This Question

A:  I bought this for my husband to use while working from home, as I keep it quite cold in our house. He uses it at his desk. We have carpeting, so he laid a piece of cardboard under it that he cut the exact same size as the warming mat. He's had it about a year and says he loves it. We have white carpet, it hasn't discolored or hurt our carpet in any way. I'm glad I bought it for him, as he is keeping the temps down in the house because of it. I recommend it and would buy it again.

A:  use cardboard just to protect from any possible discoloration

A:  I have used my foot warming mat safely on a carpeted floor (carpet tiles) in my home office for over a year with no concerns. I only have it on when I am in the room and need the warmth on my bare feet. I don't leave any appliances or lights on when I leave a room.

A:  I think the manufacturer may be better able to answer your question. The testing which could be done, measuring the electrical input voltage and current and keeping a check on the mat surface temperature changes under various conditions of usage and positions of the hi-lo switch. You or some do-it-yourselfer could do all that testing and report the results. Seems like a good bit of trouble though. It is just a heated floor mat. Enjoy it. Don't get your feet too hot. I do see your point though, it seems like there may be some discrepancy between the description of operation and the actual operation. That is a point to ponder.

A:  It takes about five minutes to warm up. I usually keep my shoes on but for extra heating, I will slip my feet out of my shoes and put them directly onto the mat. But my feet which are almost always cold get so hot on the mat that I have to put them back into my shoes.

I've owned one of these for about 3 weeks & it has changed my normally cold-footed late-fall life to one of warmth, joy, & holiday bliss. As noted, these mats are not to be used over carpet or wood flooring. Unfortunately, my home office is carpeted & sets above an unheated crawlspace. After thinking about using tile between the mat & my carpet I instead used 1/2" plywood with a thin piece of reflective sheet metal screwed on top. The mat stays put pretty well with the help of two spring clips on the far edge, & so far seems to tolerate the reflective sheet metal. The low setting on the mat works perfect & the high setting is a little hot. Life is good, except my wife keeps taking my place at my desk.

My office floor is concrete and my feet have been freezing since the day I moved in here 7 yrs ago. I have had a heat run added at my feet and my feet were still freezing. I used a space heater but to get my feet warm the rest of me was dying of the heat. I got this little gem and it's a game changer. My feet are warm and it radiates just enough heat upward to warm my legs as well. I love it!!

With the temps in the teens, working above a open parking garage, the mat has so far kept my feet from getting cold and because its uses less energy than a traditional heater its not blowing any circuits.

                    works great and fits perfectly!
This is a perfect fit for under my desk and is excellent at keeping my feet warm. The office space is over an uninsulated slab and the floor is really cold in the winter months.

Works great, for high setting need slippers!
PROS: Received it today, so don't know how long it will last. However, so far so good! Has 2 settings: LOW = 60W, HIGH = 120W (per the manual, not the WRONG online affirmation of one single setting of 90W). So on high setting is using up little more power than that old 100W incandescent bulb. Not bad in case you forget it ON under your desk overnight, as I will for sure (unless I will plug it into a timer, as someone smartly suggested). Low heat is a friendly warmth, can keep your normal summer socks on and feels good. Takes about 20+ mins to reach max heating on LOW. The HIGH heat is much stronger, you feel it right away and you cannot keep your feet on the mat only with summer socks, need a sole in-between (slippers, flip-flops...). I use it in the typical coldest bedroom of the house, above the garage, all walls exposed. It is great for heating my feet and legs, as most of the cold feeling comes from the cold floor. About potential hardwood floor damage (mine is hardwood) - I can see some vague possibility on HIGH... But LOW seems very safe, your laptop cooling fan spills much more heat downwards than the low setting of this mat. As they say in the questions section and ALSO in the one-page manual, you can put a cardboard underneath or maybe better some yoga-mat (less likely to ignite than cardboard). You should NOT put it under a small rug because of the risk of fire due to OVERHEATING. The mat is meant to eliminate all heat upwards by natural convection; if covered, it may overheat badly. Cable is 2.87m (113") long. The ON/Low/High on-cable switch is 0.9m or 35 1/2" away from the plug. Does not smell, and I have a very fine sense of smell. I believe the longer it stayed in the warehouse, the less smelly it gets. People complaining probably got a fresh new product. TEMPERATURE of the mat, measured with a laser reader (consider that human body temp is 36-37C): LOW 45 C in the middle, on the sides (2" away from edges) goes colder ~42C HIGH 60C in the middle, on the sides (2" away from edges) goes colder ~50C Dimensions: 14x21 inches. About the INTERNAL thermostat: some people in the questions section do not understand how that works. It does keep the temperature constant, but the INTERNAL temperature, the temperature of the mat itself, NOT the temp of the environment. Same as the thermostat of an oil-heater, for example. It stays as hot to the touch as you set it, and of course in summer your room will go much hotter than in winter. Some people are confusing INTERNAL with EXTERNAL thermostat, like the one on the wall, used for furnace or A/C. THAT ONE (external) considers the room temperature, because it is installed on the wall, so it reads the temperature at that height ON THE WALL and tells the furnace to push heat until the desired room temp is reached. This INTERNAL thermostat considers only the device's temperature because it is installed INSIDE the device. It does neither care, nor know, of your room's temperature. CERTIFICATIONS: UL 130:2011 R05.15 CAN/CSA C22.2 No.15-M91 (R2015) CONS: - It's ugly. I am a man and still find it so "rubbery", could not feel more black and more rubber than it is :-) The very definition of a flat piece of rubber; also not improved by the "brand" name "COZY PRODUCTS". However, going under the desk makes it inconspicuous, so no big deal. - IGNORE the 90W power explanation from the online presentation, totally wrong, see on top the real wattage. OVERALL: a good buy, keeps my feet and legs warm in that cold room. Recommended.

Not for use on Carpet or Wood Floors
Nowhere in the home depot product description does it state what's written in the manual: "For use on concrete, stone or tile floors. Do not use on carpeting or wood floors."
