Questions & Answers

How long will the Kohler motor last, cutting 4 acres of bermuda in San Antonio, Tx?

Asked by: Rocky
I live close to harlingen and bought this mower 2008 after hurricane Dolly. The johnson grass was 5 ft tall and it cut it moving slow and never stalled or worked this mower hard. Bermuda should be no problem. I have only done regular maintenance like oil air filter blades . The connect to apply water hose keeps underdeck great . Its still runnig strong now june 2018. You get more than you pay for . Bought extended warranty and didn't need it after 8 yrs still don't after 10

We Take the sides and top off with a Drill and a Pry Bar / Hammer. There are hex head screws on all four sides and the lid holding it together. The sides fold down and come off easy with one strike from a Dead blow and the pry bar to move the stapled boards on the bottom. Then All that you need to do is put it in push mode and have one person lift and pull the front while another pushes from the rear. Otherwise if unlike me you can gas it up I would suggest that approach.

The PTO on my new tractor (less than 4hours) will not engage when i pull the knob! Am i missing somthing?

Asked by: Craig
This has been an issue with Cub Cadet for years. I owned 3 and every one of them did the same thing. Would either disengage or not engage at all. Why they can't manage to fix this is beyond me. They have had complaints for years and done nothing to correct the problem. I guess they just don't care. They went from Kohler Command engines to Kohler junk engines, from direct drive ( very fast and powerful) to belt drive that crawls and won't climb hills and from manual engage to PTO that doesn't work.

XT1 Enduro Series LT 50 in. 24 HP V-Twin Kohler Hydrostatic Gas Front-Engine Lawn Tractor is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 357.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from This thing is a beast I recently bought a house on ten acres a few months ago in the Lake City area. So I got the 50" deck which does great. The property has lots of large Oak, Maple and Cherry trees on it. Five acres of it needed to be bush hogged because it had 3' oaks and sage brush pretty thick. When tractor work was done I brought in the cub cadet. This lot had a lot of rough terrain and 1 to 2" thick stumps left from the oaks. This mower has plowed through it chopping everything (including old branches that had fallen). I thought for sure my blades were damaged from the noises I heard, but they still look great. I have since mowed it three times now and got everything pretty well mulched up now. I do need new blades now, but the money I saved from having someone mow it with a tractor well made up for the price of new. I only wished I had a video to show. Truly is the best mower I have ever owned. I know for sure the bolens mower I had before this could not have got the job done.

I bought my 50" XT1 just over 3 years ago in mid 2015 (Read just out of warranty)….I was happy with it, until I wasn't. The hydrostatic transmission gave out and my machine only has 89 hours on it. HD gave me a contact number for an approved repair vendor. They want $1200 to replace the factory sealed, non repairable hydrostatic transmission. It simply isn't worth it to repair at that cost. I guess I will need to buy another machine.....however Cub Cadet has now left a bad taste in my mouth. I do not think it unreasonable to expect that a $2000 expenditure should result in a machine lasting longer than 3 years and 89 hours of operation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great powerful mower I really like the power of the 24hp Kohler motor, everything about it is just as i expected. I'm a big Cub Cadet fan however I'm very disappointed in the mulch plug, it should stay in the grove on the deck but doesn't, within minutes it moves out of the grove with the pin in the front hole coming out of the hole thus allowing it to come out of the deck groove, once that happens it starts making a strange and annoying sound. I would think that such a great American company like Cub Cadet would have solved this problem very easily and I hope to hear from them. The mower itself is definitely a 5.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It's okay. One problem I have with it is you have to keep the blades running the whole time you're mowing. For instance, when you get to the end of your line and need to back up and turn around to keep your lines straight. If you keep turning your blades on and off when you do this you'll burn up your belt about once a month. One other little problem is if you're mowing a hillside and you lean a little too far you'll trip the safety switch on your seat and the blades will cut out. This mower is very top heavy and feels unstable when mowing hillsides. The seat is also slippery, when wearing jeans I felt as though I was sliding off while mowing hillsides. In summation, if you have a perfectly flat and square lawn to mow this is the mower for you. If not you might want to look for a more stable mower that has a wider stance and arm rests to keep you in your seat. I do like the cup/cellphone holder and the hydrostatic forward/reverse peddles. It is however not what I'd expect from a Cub Cadet.

Just received our tractor yesterday, got it set up' and started mowing our overgrown "lawn". I am really impressed! Our old tractor was 21 HP, & 46", but this machine, puts it to shame. We have fairly deep and steep ditches at our property, so we cut transverse to the ditch. This machine pulls right up out of the ditch, with my 225 Lbs., on it with zero lag! Speaking of "zero", I don't think the "zero" turn mowers have anything on this machine, It turns on a dime! Also, what I like is it's ability to cut in reverse, and it's easy to use reverse pedal. The only thing I would like to see, regards the manual, for a first time user, and more definition regarding starting. It was not obvious (to me, at least), that the choke activation, involved moving the throttle lever FULL up! It's a very logical feature, once you realize what the symbol at top throttle is for. Obviously this machine far exceeds our expectations, particularly the brute power!

Just hit 29 hours and blew a rear axle seal. Takes two weeks at end of June to have repaired under warranty. We will see what happens next. Am somewhat concerned after reading some other reviews. I had very good service out of an MTD-made Huskee (25hp/46" cut) tractor from Tractor Supply. Used for 12 summers of mowing 2 acres/week and just had to have clutch in hydrostatic drive replaced. Replaced 2 of the 3 deck spindles during the 2017 season. Will re-evaluate after 2 full seasons.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from 24 hours on the meter and two issues. Riding mower is 8 months old, with 24 hours on the meter. the deck belt has now come of the pulleys twice. First time I was cutting grass about 4 inches deep and the mower stopped working, so I drove to the garage, and looked under unit, and realized the belt had come off. to reinstall, unbolt all guards and use a 3/8 drive in tension pulley to pull the slack in belt toward the pulley. Get help because its difficult to pull on socket wrench and install belt by yourself. I used mower about 3 more hours, and belt has come off again. This time the belt is off because the tension spring was broke. I called, and waited on hold for 35 minutes, customer service, and they are sending new spring no charge. It has been promised to me in 5 to 7 days. I called a cub cadet service center locally. to buy a spring, one for a spare, and they don't stock that part. I have to say I had another lawn tractor from a different company and never had any problems cutting the same lawn.

I hadn't cut my grass in 3 weeks so it was thick and tall. With the Craftsman 46" I had I would have had to remove the deck cover to mow and put it back on and mow again to mulch the clippings. The Cub Cadet blew through the thick grass like a hot knife through butter and left absolutely NO clippings behind WITHOUT the mulch kit, I was ecstatic. I was also very impressed by it's speed and turning radius. I have at least 10 large spruce trees and I would usually push mow around them to reach underneath them. The Cub Cadet's 50" deck and tight turn radius took care of that. It started right up after I got it home and runs flawlessly. I'm very impressed with it and I'm glad I spent the extra money because it cuts the grass evenly and looks great when I'm done. I have 1.5 acres with lots of trees and actually look forward to cutting my lawn.
