No, the reason is that when you turn the handle on a washer-type faucet to shut off the flow of water the threaded spindle or stem screws its way down into the faucet body and presses the rubber washer on the end of the stem down against the metal valve seat inside the faucet body, thus closing the opening and shutting off. The screw does not actually touch anything.

A:  I have installed a few stem over the years as DIY'er (property owner). I am assuming that you mean that the it leaks through the handles when you use the shower diverter. The product is incorrect for the plumbing (this happens periodically with generics non OEM replacement). I remember installing something that was correct based on the book and look of the product, and it seemed to install properly but would leak through the handle when opened. I got lucky that time in that a pro plumber was in line and saw our issue and had a proper model replacement form the same non OEM manufacturer and sold it to use for a few buck over his cost. Save our whole night. I would recommend you take the original back to HD and get someone there to help or take it to a old fashion plumbing shop (not many of those left). They tend to have old new inventory of older out of date products.

A:  Thank you for your interest in Danco products. Tightening the big nut may help. However we do suggest the following: clean out the valve body with Vinegar, CLR or Limeway of all the mineral deposits and make sure you have replaced the faucet seats.
