Doesn't shrink, reconstitutes with acetone
Been using this product for years and it has always served me well. From most of the reviews I'm going to chalk it up to user error and not product quality. If used to fill large holes or deep cracks, best practice is to add in thin layers until built up. Using large amounts at once will cause it to shrink, compromising the bond leading to failure. Stop blaming others from your own ignorance and or incompetence.

terrible product
Impossible to smoothly apply the filler on a wood. I used different types of puddy knives but getting the surface to smooth out is an extra job on it’s own. And the can starts to dry immediately up on opening it. Horrible product!

DAP Plastic Wood Solvent Professional Wood Filler formula is specifically designed for fast drying characteristics, as indicated on the product label and supporting product literature: "Dries in approximately 15 minutes depending on depth of fill". Dry time/working can be significantly impacted (shortened) by higher ambient air and/or application substrate temperatures. Based on the feedback that you provided, it would appear that DAP Plastic Wood All-Purpose Wood Filler or DAP Plastic Wood-X Stainable Wood Filler with DryDex Dry Time Indicator would be more in line with your needs/preferences. These latex (water based) formulas offer more working time, clean up with water and have lower odor, when compared to the traditional solvent-based Plastic Wood formula. Not good
Upon opening the container was half way filled. I feel like I got ripped off. Overall the product worked just fine the amount you get is misleading.

To properly measure the fill rate of this product, the use of a scale would be required. Relative to the size of the plastic package, the observed fill rate that you describe would be considered normal for this product. It works but they misrepresent how much you are buying. Basically doubles the price.

Bad Experience!
Brand new 4 ounce can was opened and the putty flowed outward and had to be pushed back in to mix. The can was only half full. I didn't expect a lot of putty from a 4 ounce can but I only had some cracks to fill on a 2x4x6. The 4 ounce half of a can barely did the job. I would not buy this product again.

Thank you for posting your inquiry. The DAP Plastic Wood Solvent Professional Wood Filler is a solvent-based formula and is specifically designed for fast drying characteristics. As indicated on the product label: "Allow to dry thoroughly before sanding or finishing. Dries in as little as 15 minutes for shallow, low volume fills and 2-24 hours in larger volume fills ¼” deep and over. Sand with medium sandpaper (100 grit). For larger and deeper repairs, apply two or more thin layers, allowing wood filler to dry between applications. Overfill to allow for settling and sanding. Of note: Dry time/working can be significantly impacted (shortened) by higher ambient air and/or application substrate temperatures.

This product makes it possible to reconstruct wood problems areas. I reconstructed a window seal that had a major area of rotten wood. After painting the window seal is very presentable. I believe in this product and highly recommend for any wood filling situations.
