I have broken more fingernails (at $25 a manicure) trying to open the spackle container. Is there any way your team of highly educated packaging engineers could come up with an easier way to open the container?
Asked by: trdryspackler
Use a screwdriver, or the side of the tool to spread this material on the wall. That will save your nails, and easier to open. It also wash's off your nails when done.

Can this product be used for leaking holes that i have on my cealing?

Asked by: Manuel
Water will destroy this just as fast as it destroys wallboard. After fixing leaks you can use it.

It’s been three days and the spackle is still light pink. Using to distress a faux brick wall so thicker than normal.

Asked by: Liz
Must be very thick. My applications to wood dried in less than 24 hours.

Once I spackled and sanded, it was a coupled of days before I painted, the spackled seemed to swell under the paint. Do I need to put primer over the spackle before painting?
Asked by: MattMac
I did, and I experienced no problems with painting.

But, that was a mistake. What I should have done is research product reviews prior to purchasing. After preparing my wall surface, and applying a coat, AND waiting until the next day prior to applying another coat; this product failed. I applied several coats over the week, as described above. Then waited a week before painting the surface today. And just as others have commented here, the product peeled off upon the first coat. In one of the other reviews, someone states they took the product back to the store for a refund (not available to me as an option considering the time I've taken applying the product) and he was told that he should have put primer first... PLEASE believe me when I say: That does NOT make a difference. I myself was applying primer before color matching my wall, and the product still came off. And this is after a week's worth of dry time! I am including a photo. PLEASE: Do not waste your money on this product. You will be disappointed. You should just buy normal putty, or putty mix, and repair your home. This product is a waste of money, effort, and time!

Very slow drying! Will not fill holes, will not fill cracks, the only thing this is marginally good for are screw holes. I should have read the reviews, but this was supposedly the “number one selling” on the market....it is garbage! Do yourself a favor and pay twice as much for something- anything- else! Extremely disappointed in Dap!

I have been spackling for a long time and have never used such a bad product. Maybe it should be sold in cup sizes for covering nails holes, but then what's the point you might as well use regular compound. Really annoyed I wasted time on this product.

As others have experienced, this is a complete waste of time and money. The product consistency is like a foamy gel and spreads poorly. After applying a thin layer on the wall, with the expectation that I would have to do several coats due to poor spreadability, I walked away. 10 minutes later, I returned to find this sliding off the wall with a foamy consistency and pooling at the bottom of my wall section. The pink had turned white but it was nowhere dry and had no intention of drying. As others have also done, I had to wipe it off and now wait for any residual to dry. I will be returning this to the store, and starting all over with some real joint compound from a reputable company. This is a poor excuse for a joint compound or any other description of a product. This is nothing like real joint compound, it spreads poorly, dries slowly, and has no adhesion. The only thing it does is turn pink to white, but this indictes nothing. The manufacturer should be ashamed of themselves, and instead of asking people for more details of their experiences, remove this embarrassing product from the shelf and go back in your labs and test it before putting it on the market. Home Depot should really remove this terrible product from their shelves. Buyer beware.

DAP engineers & chemists need to go back to the drawing board on this one. White does NOT indicate dry. Followed instructions to the letter, including stirring. Filled some small shallow nail holes in interior wood moulding - product turned white in about 4 hours. Yet was still pliable 48 hours later in an extremely low humidity environment. Seems to never fully cure to the point where it is a hard material. I wound up scraping as much as possible out of the holes, and redid them with a lower cost HDX house brand which worked much better. Save your time and money folks, this stuff simply doesn't work. Look at all the 1 star reviews, they are accurate.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Contractor unapproved!!! This product is awful! I am a General Contractor and I have given this product its last shot! This product has never given good results. Drys fast only when spread super thin and even when it turns white, it is still soft to the touch and can't be sanded. This product forms bubbles when drying and even after sanding, when you begin to roll paint across the patched area, the roller pulls off the surface of where the bubbles were! This is a terrible product and I won't waste anymore of my money on it again!

While the product works as designed it was too "dry" to spread over large areas, like say a short joint since it does not flow as freely as regular mud will. Great for small patch jobs. The color will disappear even when not thoroughly dry if you applied mud is filling a small hole, but the surface of it seems workable for light sanding, but I would wait a few hours more before painting. I believe the instructions warn you of thick applications. Otherwise, what's not to like about it?
