My handyman used this by mistake around a wood shoe base on a luxury vinyl flooring. Pros and cons of this please and if you recommend removing and use something else?

    Answer This Question

Thank you for posting your inquiry on DAP Kwik Seal Kitchen and Bath Adhesive Caulk. DAP Kwik Seal is a latex based caulk designed for sealing sinks, showers, fixtures etc, in kitchen and bath applications. While it will adhere to both the wood and vinyl surfaces, and is moderately elastic, it may not offer enough flexibility for the joint in which it was applied. This can potentially result in cracking. For the application as described, we would recommend DAP Dynaflex 230 or DAP Extreme Stretch. Should you have additional questions or wish to discuss the alternate product options, please feel free to reach out to DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

Is this product not meant to caulk tub surrounds? It has failed to fully cure multiple times. Happened again last week. I removed the old caulk, cleaned the area with mineral spirits, dried with heat gun, and still tacky after 72 hrs. Bead size was fine.

      Answer This Question

Thank you for posting your feedback on DAP Kwik Seal Kitchen and Bath Sealant. DAP KWIK SEAL Kitchen & Bath Adhesive Caulk is designed, marketed and labeled expressly for use as a kitchen and bath projects formula. As this is a water based (acrylic latex) formula, the sole drying mechanism is the evaporation of water. Dry time can be significantly impacted by cool or humid application conditions, moisture in the application surfaces or by thick (deep) applications of the sealant. Based on your commentary indicating "It failed to cure multiple times" would tend to indicate that the application conditions may not have been favorable or that there may be a bond-breaker on the existing surface (silicone sealant or its residue). At your convenience, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477 so that we can obtain some additional information from you about your experience.

Can I use this caulk to set a few tiles that have come up
          ByMay 6, 2025
          1 Answer |
          Answer This Question

Thank you for posting your inquiry. DAP Kwik Seal is designed, marketed, labeled, and recommended for use as a general-purpose kitchen and bath caulk/sealant. While small repairs, such as resetting a loose tile or bath fixture is possible, it is not designed, tested, marketed, labeled, or recommended for use as a primary construction adhesive, nor should it be used to install tile where the backing surface/application area has been compromised/or no longer structurally sound. Should you have any additional questions or require further assistance, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

How can I get this broken free from the stainless steel sink and remove the sink without damaging it?
            ByMar 6, 2025
            1 Answer |
            Answer This Question

Thank you for posting your inquiry on DAP KWIK SEAL. As with any caulk/sealant, assuming proper application and performance development, once these products have fully dried/cured, removal would be expected to be difficult. Assuming that the surrounding surfaces are heat tolerant, a heat gun (on a low temperature setting) can be used to help soften the sealant to make cutting (with a utility knife) easier. Small amounts of film or residue can typically be softened/removed with denatured/rubbing alcohol and/or mineral spirits (paint thinner), following solvent manufacturer's guidance. Larger/thicker amounts typically require mechanical removal methods such as: cutting (utility knife), scraping (putty knife) and scouring (soft plastic scouring pad). Should you have any further questions or wish to discuss this, please feel free to contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

DAP Kwik Seal is a go-to product! No need for a cumbersom caulk gun. You can cut the nozzle to any size you need. The product flows smoothly and evenly. Paint covers completely. Seals and hides all gaps! Cap is a great way to save Caulk from drying out! Look at the smooth, no gap!

The price is reasonable. I like it is easy to apply but the I dont like the smell of it. It has meant my expectations on applying it on the edges of the bath tub. It was delivered so fas, packed and sealed.

I have used this product for many years. It is not only easy to use the cap seals site and will protect the contents for months. The calk will remain white and hold it's place. Do it right the first time with this adhesive calk and you will be satisfied with your job. This job was done three years ago.

DON'T BUY for bathrooms! Not waterproof!
I purchased 2 tubes to recaulk my bath tub, since the packaging said "kitchens and baths" and the small print says "100% waterproof" and "dries like caulk." 100% false. I removed ALL my old caulk before applying and let dry for over 24 hours. Within a week it was mushy like wet paper and peeling away from the tub/tile. I tried again. Again, removed all the old, let the tub dry for 24 hrs after toweling it dry, with fans and heat on in the room. Applied again. This time I let it cure for 36 hours. A week later, MUSH. This stuff is not silicone and does not dry 100% waterproof. Don't waste your money. Taking the unopened tub back.

Thank you for posting your feedback on DAP KWIK SEAL. DAP KWIK SEAL is an acrylic latex based sealant and not a silicone, nor is it marketed as a silicone. Based on your commentary indicating: “Within a week it was mushy like wet paper and peeling away from the tub/tile", it would appear to indicate that you may be attempting to apply the sealant to an area where silicone and/or its residue may be present. Because silicone and its residue are classified as a "bond breaker" (a surface that is too slick to permit proper adhesion/bond formation), proper adhesion/product performance would not be expected. Normal cleaning and surface preparation methods are not likely adequate to address this condition. At your convenience, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477 so that we can obtain some additional information from you and to provide you with guidance on how to best proceed. DO NOT USE FOR SHOWERS
Unfortunately this stuff cracks after showers! I thought maybe I did a bad job cleaning the caulk so I tore out and gave another try, it cracked again! When I tore it out again it was all wet behind it. I let it dry 3 days! Didn't matter! So very annoying. Def do not use for showers! It says you can but this is a hard no. Now I'm tearing it all out to switch to 100% silicone like I should have done to start. Very annoying!!!

Thank you for posting your feedback on DAP Kwik Seal. Based on your commentary indicating: "Unfortunately this stuff cracks after showers! I thought maybe I did a bad job cleaning the caulk so I tore out and gave another try, it cracked again! When I tore it out again it was all wet behind it. I let it dry 3 days!" would appear to signal that there may be some concerns with the application site. Loss of adhesion to the substrate (often described as “cracking”) typically indicates that there may be a bond-breaker on the existing surface (silicone sealant or its residue). As is the case for this and all similar non-silicone-based formulas, it is not recommended for application to an existing application of silicone or where silicone residue may be present. Because silicone and its residue are classified as a "bond-breaker" (a surface that is too slick to permit proper bond formation), proper adhesion/performance would not be expected. Normal cleaning and surface preparation methods are not likely adequate to address this condition. No great features...
Avoid this cr@p. Go with PolySeamSeal. The DAP is chunky and runny at the same time, not good. You can get an occasional good bead, but it will stop flowing for no apparent reason. Then, you realize there is a blockage in the spout and squeeze harder to get it out. It is then followed by a rush of milky white liquid that gets everywhere. Not good. I dont know how much of this is poor product vs HD not knowing how to keep water based products from freezing, but it's a waste of time and money either way.
