Helps to repair vs. replace.
I used this to patch a hole in a hollow core door that I didn't secure as well as I thought oops, the door fell on a stripper can and the top of the can went through it, so it is replace the door or fix it . Off to Home, depot for some for some Great Stuff gap and crack and Dap Plastic wood!, after filling and trimming the insulating foam, applying the DAP Plastic wood, Letting it dry in between coats and sanding lightly my door is repaired waiti g to put on my last coat. I prefer to wait a couple od days between coats when using over a foam or for a large patch. I love this filler.

Thank you for posting your feedback. We're sorry to see your low star review on DAP Plastic Wood (Squeeze Tube). At your convenience, please contact DAP's Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477 so that we can obtain some additional information from you. When calling, please be sure to have the package (squeeze tube) available, as we will need to verify the production code in order to determine the date of manufacture.

I was refinishing my wide plank living room and dining room floor that has some really huge knots in it, and also some smaller knots that are no longer there and a few knots that no longer fit well in their knot holes and lets not forget a few huge gouges and a bunch of other large imperfections that I wanted to fill including a very large chunk that was missing around a nail, it is a face nailed floor that is nailed with cut nails. I filled in every knot hole, check crack, and gouge with this product. I also removed a nail form a large crack, filled the crack and reset the nail into the wood filler. There were a few knots that were still in their knot holes but no longer actually fit, I was able to remove the knots, fill the holes, and replace the knot so that it was just above the surface of the floor. I waited 2 full days (48 hours) and sanded the wood filler back on everything I had filled with great results. The nail I had set into the filler was able to be set just below the surface after sanding so it matched other nails in the floor, and every one of the knots that I set in the filler stayed in place and was able to be sanded flush with no problem. I have attached a photo showing the several types of repair I did after I laid down the polyurethane. My only regret is not dying the filler, still I ended up with a great floor.

Complete waste of time and money!
Followed instructions to a tee. Spent hours filling screw holes and other voids and sanding to perfection. Two days later after the tiniest sprinkling of rain, a lot of them broke out of the holes. Also, this stuff is really soft - not durable at all. What a huge waste of my time! Dont buy this stuff, its terrible!

Thank you for posting your review. We're sorry to see your low star review on DAP Plastic Wood All-Purpose Wood Filler (Squeeze Tube). Plastic Wood (All Versions) is not designed or recommended for use as a "stand alone" product, as indicated on the product package label and supporting product literature: "Exterior applications must be coated with latex or oil-based paint or solid color stain”. Moisture exposure (especially if the filler is not fully dried at the time of exposure) will likely lead to performance issue. Because you did not provide any background regarding your project, application technique or application conditions, it is difficult to provide a more detailed response in this format. At your convenience, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477 so that we can obtain some additional information regarding your experience and to offer some additional application guidance.

I needed to repair some rotting wood along the sides of my front steps. The Dap filler worked fine. It was easy to fill in the bad spots, so I decided to reinforce those areas against further rot. The Dap dried quickly, sanded easily, and took the paint well. My completed job looks just fine.

I used this to fill holes on my kitchen cabinet hinges where they came loose. Though I add a wooden dowel in the center and this wood filler. Worked out great!

It is Nothing Like Real Wood
DAP claims that this product "Looks and acts like real wood," but this is not true. Real wood does not get covered with mildew after rain. Real wood does not crack after proper application. Real wood does not pop out of holes. I followed all instructions on the package carefully when filling the nail holes, wood cracks and chips. After 4 days, I sanded and then primed with a latex outdoor primer, then painted two coats of outdoor latex paint. One month later, the DAP Plastic Wood is cracking in almost every place. Mildew has begun to form in a few places. Some larger filled holed are popping out. I will have to redo hours of work. Do not use this product or at least not outside. I cannot comment on indoor usage.

Thank you for posting your feedback. We're sorry to see your low star review on DAP Plastic Wood Solvent Professional Wood. This product is designed for minor cosmetic repairs, such as: nail/screw holes, cracks, knot holes, etc. The photographs that you included in your review appears to depict “deck boards” in rather distressed condition (nearly the entire application surface exhibits significant checking/splitting). Large format repairs such as rot repair, edge/grain filling, “skim coating” (resurfacing) are well outside the scope of this product’s intended uses. Likewise, as with any hard setting wood repair filler, they should not be applied to unstable surfaces, joints, seams or other areas prone to movement. Unfortunately, DAP does not offer an appropriate product to address this type of project/condition. Should you have any additional questions or require further assistance, please feel free to contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.
