Can this be used to fill cracks on stair risers?

Asked by: Patriots
Yes....it does not "repair" or reinforce but will fill cracks easily...take the time with sandpaper/file/you choose so wood is properly prepped...bare..no stain...dirt...paint...junk....force it in and around with a trowel...remove excess...and let it cure!!! it will not seperate..crack away from wood...for years of stair stepping...you can sand stain paint whatever...with proper prep and curing time this product will hold up...has become my best friend as I am a weldor...hate woodwork...even though I am good at it I cover up my mistakes or existing problems...also helps keep cracks from spreading...just my opinion after years replacing and cursing when this product works very well filling cracks...even on heavily traveled wood such as stairs... did I mention I hate woodworking and there are people far better with more experience...who might disagree...i might as well just tape this tube to my miter saw and every piece of molding I buy

Can this be used to repair scratches/holes in oak hardwood floors?

Can this be used to repair scratches/holes in oak hardwood floors?
Asked by: Sandy
I would say...maybe. It does dry very hard and can even be sanded. However, you might have a hard time finding one of the very limited colors that matches well. Perhaps you could purchase some colorant to mix in to get it just right. Also, I would say that if the scratches and holes are very wide, it might not look very natural. It has the look of grout when it dries. For very small imperfections it is great, but if the imperfections you wish to correct are large, you may be disappointed.

It's just like latex paint. Water soluble while wet, waterproof after hardening.

Plastic Wood 3 oz. Natural Latex Carpenter's Wood Filler is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 194.

It stuck better to my hands and tools than it did the cracks I was trying to fill. Once I got it in the general area that I wanted it, it was difficult to smooth out, without completely pulling it off the surface I was working on. When it dries it shrinks SIGNIFICANTLY and becomes very brittle. It pulled away from the cracks I filled when dry, leaving gaps and it easily crumbles away when touched/wiping down the surface. Mind you, it's been in use on my window ledge/molding less than a year. Terrible product, do not recommend.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Will NOT hold stain I refinished a vintage table, sanded, prepped, did everything I should have done then used min wax wood finish in special walnut and the cracks and holes that I patched will NOT hold stain...I've worked hard on this table and the stain is beautiful on the REAL wood but the DAP plastic wood looks HORRIBLE... now I'm going to have to figure out something else, I guess my table is ruined and I'm against painting it...I'm going to have to buy another product and start all over or just trash it...Thanks for such a misleading description DAP..!!!

If you are used to Elmer's wood filler which dries out before you can use the entire small container, get ready to be shocked. DAP's wood filler seals completely and even 6 months later, it was as fluid as the first time I used it. It is good for exterior projects as well as the usual interior use of filling holes from inset finish nails. Used it to fill deep gouges in our dock's deck boards. Stains well. Just be sure it is fully cured. It should be white. If you see any tan, wait to stain. If you don't the stain won't penetrate.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from waste of my time and money I used this to patch some cracks and holes in my wood steps. I followed the directions. I waited for the matetial to harden so i could stain it. But it took days to harden. Then on the day i was to stain it rained. When i went out the next day the dap was moist and splattered around my steps. I had to scrub it all out and i tried again with the same resoults. The dap never really dried hard. I have to scrap it all off again. But this time im just going to leave the cracks and holes. The product was useless outside.

I'm uncertain as to how it will hold up to screws, but it most certainly didn't hold nails for me. Once in place, the nails I'd driven in could be slid back out with my fingernails. No grip to it at all. It's not all bad though. It is really easy to apply and though it starts to dry quickly, I found that I had plenty of time to work with it. Once it dried, it sanded down nice and smooth without any complications.

What a headache- this " stainable product" is NOT stainable what so ever. I had tons of screwheads in mid center of my fence, since I was taking alot of time to refinish it, I wanted it as good as I could get it. I bought this to fill in the holes across the entire fence, sanded as per product prep guidelines..... I stained over the Dap Plastic wood all purpose paintable & stainable product and it shows through, horrible- its not stainable at all. See for yourself! How did I fix it? I had to sand even more of it off, dig it out of each of the 15 sections of fence, each section had approx 15 holes= 225 holes to re do....chisel out & RE FILL over it with Minwax Stainable wood filler- that worked. Please do not buy this product if you intend to use any stain on it-you will be more than sorry. This has taken me almost 2 extra weeks to deal with the mishap.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Did not work for new england weather I used this putty before I stained my deck. To cover up some short cut boards. It went on easy and dried well. But after a week we got some rain. And in spots it washed the putty away and the stain that was on it. When I touched the bare putty that was exposed it had the texture of mud. Not impressed since I wasted the weekend installing and allowing it to dry before applying the stain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It works for me time and time again Most of the complaints I see is from people not familiar with dealing with puddy. If it is lumpy add some solvent (Polish remover ie Acetone) or is lumpy and has solvent mix it well. The thickness is the key to what project your working on. I used it on rifle stocks, desks, tables etc. just use some common sense and TLC.
