Will this adhere to latex paint

Asked by: Dirtydave
Thank you for posting your inquiry. DAP Plastic Wood Professional Wood Filler will bond to properly prepared (clean, dry, cured and deglossed) painted surfaces. Of note: The solvents in this formula may soften or degrade certain finishes, as such, we would recommend a small test application product to proceeding. Should you have any questions or require further assistance, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

Is this still flammable after drying?

Is this still flammable after drying?
Asked by: Anonymous
DAP Plastic Wood Solvent Professional Wood Filler is only flammable when in the "wet" state. After the material is dry it would be treated just as solid wood.

How do I put screws in the plastic wood?

Put some of this in holes where the hinge on my cabinet door came loose. Now I am unable to put the screws back in. Is there a way to dissolve the Plastic wood filler. This is the brand I used.
Asked by: maddie234
In order to install a screw into a hard setting wood repair product, you will need to drill pilot a hole (a small drill hole that allows the screw to be driven).

Plastic Wood 4 oz. Natural Solvent Woodfiller is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 65.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from This dried so quickly that it was difficult to use... This dried so quickly that it was difficult to use and it smells strongly, so even well-ventilated areas reek.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Product itself is great...DO NOT buy the squeeze tube I have used Plastic wood for the last few years and have had great success with it. I typically buy the small metal container but this time I chose to purchase the squeeze tube. BAD IDEA. I have had the same experience as other posters below. The product at the top of the tube was really gritty and half dry. I squeezed about 1/2" of product out of the tube and "POP" the entire bottom of the tube blew out. I had a giant glob of plastic wood sitting on my hardwood floors (wiped right up, so not a big deal, but if I had been on the carpet portion of the floor it would have been a mess). I ended up squeezing the entire tube worth of product out through the bottom into a plastic dish and completing my project, but there was no saving what was left and my project timeline got extremely condensed. Great product but DAP needs to do some serious work on the squeeze tube packaging.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Have bought the product for 50 years. The product works well if you follow the directions carefully. Have some acetone, for thinning, on hand. Use the tube only once; there's no way to thin the product in the tube. The product dries out fast and works best if the consistency is close to that of peanut butter. Keep in mind: a thin coat dries in an hour or less, but a coat too thick, greater than a quarter inch, takes a very long time, sometimes days. When applied carefully, the product is strong, finishes nicely, blends nicely, and takes paint well.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Impossible to sand Purchased this product to fill 16g nail holes of my outdoor planter. This stuff sticks to everything (fingers, putty knife) and very difficult to wash off. Dries fast, but VERY difficult to sand. Smells like a strong solvent - you need to ventilate the room. 30 or so small holes took an hour and change to sand smooth. Applicatiion was also tough - small amout sticks to your knife or your finger, more of it sticks to the wood, but then sending it down becomes a torture. A much much better product is Elmer's Wood Filler - easy to apply, sand and paint and washes off with water. Hope it helps someone.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I really want to love this This is my second tube. The first was a liquid, or so I thought. I used it to fill in hardware holes, but as I got half way down the tube, the product was really dry. It appears as though the liquid was supposed to be mixed in with the dry material, however, it must have separated while in the store shelf. I kneaded the product before use too, but I guess that didn't work. I just purchased a second tube this morning. Began working on my project, kneaded the tube, pressed the product into the nail hole, and it burst open from the top, aiming for my forehead and hair. I'm just glad it didn't get in my eyes. It's too bad because this product is exactly what I need! Stainable, durable and can be screwed again after it dries. I will give it one more try, but first I will return it back to the store.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from DAP Plastic Wood works wonders!!! I use DAP Plastic Wood wood filler all the time for building props and set pieces in the entertainment industry. Many of the negative reviews I've seen here are based on not understanding the product or how to properly use it. Used correctly, this stuff is fantastic! It cures quickly, sands beautifully, and takes paint with ease. Thanks, DAP, for producing a terrific and reliable product. Keep up the good work!!! (Oh, and for those complaining about the can being 'half empty'... that's how it's supposed to be! The space is for mixing/thinning with acetone and adding color.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from College Dorm Doors I am using this to repair missing laminate on dorm room doors. I did add some acetone to make it more pliable and easier to spread, I am applying it in thin layers, sand smooth and reapply to get desired thickness. So far I am very content with this product, it also helps to apply it to a clean dry surface, after all it is meant to bond to wood.
