Plastic Wood-X can be used on most wood and wood-based products, however, given that MDF (the core material of these cabinets), particleboard and similar engineered wood products can often be unstable (friable, prone to flake/crumble), a test application to verify acceptable adhesion/performance would be recommended. This product is designed, marketed, and labeled for use on minor cosmetic repairs, such as: nail/screw holes, cracks, etc. (not for deep/large format repairs). When filling deep, but narrow defects (such as a screw/nail hole), the filler must be “packed” into the hole a thin layer at a time, with a drying interval between. As indicated on the product package label and supporting product literature: "4. One application is usually sufficient for small repairs. For repairs deeper than 1/8”, apply two or more layers allowing spackling to dry between applications. Of note: Depending on the size of the repair (width/depth of the hole) and the fasteners that you intend to drive into the wood filler, drilling pilot holes prior to driving your wood screws may be necessary (much like drilling a pilot hole in solid wood prior driving a wood screw, to prevent cracking/splitting). DAP Plastic Wood (All Versions) is not internally water resistant; accordingly, it relies on secondary coatings (paint, solid stain or other waterproof coating) for its water resistance. No water exposure should occur until after the product has fully dried and been properly coated.
