Can I use this on cement board to water proof it for the backboard of my new shower walls.

I'm remodeling my bathroom in my Father-In-Laws house and he wants the tile taken out and replaced with plastic shower boards but we have to replace the backboard as well. So I'm going to use cement wonderboard but we need to waterproof it before we can apply the new walls. Can this product work for what I need? If not can I have recommendations as to what might better suit my needs? Thanks in advance.
Asked by: Momo
No. Not at all. You need a waterproof industrial-quality glue. The kind that you'll find in a tube to go into your caulk gun. Home Depot has several. I know because I tried the exact same thing when remodeling my bathroom.

The drying time is longer and sometimes it can be difficult to tell if it is ready to use. The can states it should be tacky to the touch. Sometimes it was and sometimes it did not feel tacky. I used weights to hold material that I wanted to bond together. It works great! Repaired my pop up camper top with it. Removed the rotten wood and bonded new wood to foam insulation. That is why I tried this product. You have to follow instructions on the can or it doesn't work as well. Follow instructions and it works as well as regular cement without having to vent you work area. I will use again for other projects now that I have figured it out. And it cleans up with water. BONUS. Use a junk brush and roller. Couldn't get all the glue residue from them.

I am particularly happy about the fact that it is water based and the cleanup is easy. The bond created (if used properly) is as good as any solvent based contact adhesive I have ever used. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product for what it is intended. I had lowered expectations since this was the eco-friendly version of the powerful smelling solvent based type. I used both types back to back when I ran out of the solvent based (same brand, red label). Usually the worse it smells and the more toxic, the better it works. However, after using it according to the directions, which only differ because it requires you to wait 30 minutes instead of 15, I was amazed at the results. First, it applies much smoother because it is thinner. It looks milky white until it dries. I used two coats because I was worried. Remember, with contact cement you are NOT suppose to feel any adhesion when you touch the surface. It is suppose to be completely dry but not longer than 2 or 3 hours after application. It only bonds when the two coated surfaces come together. I used it on Formica counters and as soon as it touched I could barely reposition the workpiece, even with only the corner in contact. I couldn't believed it stuck so well, applied even easier, and barely smelled at all. I have a feeling people who are claiming it doesn't work aren't using it correctly or on the wrong surfaces. By the way, I didn't clean off the old contact cement from the original laminate top and it worked fine..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent for our purpose. We make Custom, high end furniture. We have to use common carriers to ship our work, and were experiencing unacceptable levels of damage. We began constructing multi-layer, thick cardboard boxes using this glue. We usually build boxes 4-6 layers thick, with the edges and corners even thicker. Our customers love the safety, and complain that it takes them hours to unpack a bed or dresser. This really works well, and we don't have to breathe the fumes associated with solvent based contact cements. We use a small 2" disposable paint brush to apply.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Manufacturer should read this review I don't know why, but there is a trick to making this product work that has eluded the manufacturers instructions. That trick is to use a hair dryer (about 1.8 kW) and heating up the two glued surfaces just prior to final contact with each other. I don't understand the science behind this, but it works. At ambient air temperatures from 60-75 degrees F the two surfaces to be bonded will not stick at all when placed together (there are many reviews on many forums/websites attesting to this experience). My project was to bond a Tolex vinyl covering to a wooden speaker cabinet enclosure. The solvents in the regular contact cement (red can) has been reported to cause damage to Tolex material in the long term as well as the high VOC content requiring a superior ventilation system. Because of these two factors, the non-flammable (green can) product was chosen. The only drawbacks are that the products is a special order (not stocked in stores) as well requires a minimum purchase of two quart cans (which is about the price of three quart cans of the red can contact cement). First attempts were unsuccessful, which led to reviewing the manufacturers directions and forums/websites for suggestions. Only one other review was favorable... and that person was also using this product for the same type project (i.e. Tolex on speaker cabinet enclosure). Success was achieved when using the product at a very high working temperature (85 degrees F). Not being able to bring the working environment to that high a temperature, I utilized a hair dryer to elevate the temperature of the of the glue on the surfaces to be bonded together with fantastic adhering results! I was a bit tedious... only 8-12 inches can be worked at a time. Results were a very strong bond, no VOC fumes to contend with, and easy clean-up.
