Don't bother
This thing couldn't find itself it was up it's on you know what. 8 missed holes later and nothing but drywall, granted it's a old house but the walls are thin. Junk, just use a stud buddy.

An expensive electronic frustration device
Ok I'm sure it's cool that it can find electrical, but how can you find a stud when the thing is beeping and flashing lights every inch across the whole wall. I had an old Sears $8 stud finder that work perfectly for many years, wish I didn't lose it.

My thirty year old stud finder finally died. This DeWalt Stud Finder caught my eye because of its wide sensor that signals when the central marking hole is over the center of the stud. I hadn't seen that before. There are left and right yellow LEDs that illuminate when over the edge of a stud, and when over the center of the stud the central red LED illuminates. No more marking with a pencil the edges of a stud and then figuring out where the center is. It figures that out for you. When the red LED lights just stick a pencil in the marking hole and make your mark. Neat.
This sleight of hand trick is accomplished by having a wide sensor that detects both sides of the stud--not just one edge at a time. It is lightweight, powered by two easily replaceable AAA batteries (no more hunting for a 9V battery), and hangs on my peg board. The only thing I didn't like about it is the soft pad on the back is very wide (as wide as the sensor) and a bit more difficult to slide across a textured wall than my old one.

Great stud sensor with a host of useful features. It auto calibrates, finds stud edges and centers automatically as well as live wires and metal objects to a depth of 1-1/2 inches. It isn’t fool proof but generally works well. Loud alerts and bright LED lights confirm findings. My old stud finder is quite bulky and while generally usable it is prone to false alarms and exaggerated stud widths so results need to be verified with two or three passes.
I tried it out in my unfinished basement so I could see the actual results and the wire finder was particularly sensitive – see video. The stud center feature is a great function and takes the guess work out of where to put the screw or nail. I also tried out the stud sensor in finished areas of my home and it was rarely fooled. Still best to measure/find twice and cut/drill once!

Eliminate the guesswork with the 1-1/2 IN. STUD FINDER, after flipping up the cover by a tab on the bottom, you insert the supply batteries. Very easy to use, you press and hold down the button and move slowly and it detects power and center of studs, wood or metal! It will work on a angle as thats a area I needed to do and it would only fit on a angle. The red light is for power, there are 2 arrows for left and right movement and a center light for center of stud!

Weird shape, but works great!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] When I first opened the package I was immediately surprised by its shape. It's not shaped like any stud finder I've used before. Its very flat, and as large as my hand. It's incredibly light however. I installed the included battery and started searching for my studs. Its as easy as placing it on the wall while holding the button down. The lights light up when its on the edge of a stud with arrows, and if your over electrical current the AC button will light up. So far its worked perfect and has spotted every stud dead on.
