About This Product

The DEWALT DXMF04051 Premium Leather Welding Gloves redefine the traditional workhorse glove of welding. This premium grade glove utilizes 100% grade-A buffalo leather, the toughest leather on the market, across the entire outer shell to provide you with serious heat protection. Unlike with other gloves, you get this protection without having to sacrifice dexterity - allowing for easier, more precise control during welds for a cleaner result. Durable Kevlar threading on the palm and throughout the entire glove resists heat and won't burn or melt during long use. The buffalo leather base of the glove is further reinforced by additional layers at high-abrasion locations like the thumb saddle, index finger, and along the side of the hand with a drag patch for a truly long wearing glove. The long, gauntlet-style open cuffs provide forearm protection and easily accommodate additional safety gear like fire-resistant sleeves and welder's jackets and the elastic sewn wrists provide you with a snug fit that is easy to put on and remove while staying securely in place while you work.

Q:Would these provide protection when arranging wood in a burning fire pit?

Answer This Question

A:  Hello OctoberKnight, Interesting question. My opinion is no. With the welding gloves you are protected from hot metal but not open flame. I think you would be better off with a set of tongs and a fire poker for arranging wood in a fire pit. If you reach into an actively burning fire and start moving things around I think the sewing thread will be the weak link. It will get burned and eventually break. The leather will handle the heat, but long term the gloves will fail (again just my opinion). I use leather gloves when I remove the expanded metal fire grate surround on my fire pit (see picture). Again, I have never handled the burning wood. Thanks Chipmaker

A:  Jamie. there is not enough data available to answer that for certain. these are high quality welding gloves & have Kevlar built in to help with heat. most welding gloves are intended to withstand a working temp of 500F and higher for short duration. it may be best to reach out to the MFG..to verify that these gloves will do what you want

I know I have an XL hand for sure, but these large gloves are quite comfortable and very dexterous. If this is an item which interests you, I suggest going and fitting them on in person just to be sure. They are rated for stick and mig welding, which makes sense, as they are not as thick as traditional gloves. It should also be fine for Oxy-Acetylene welding as well. I'm not sure how they would fare to TIG welding anything other than aluminum, as you have to get up really close and I think your hand might start burning up (but don't quote me). I also wouldn't advise grabbing hot metal with these, not even for a split second.

These DEWALT DXMF04051 Premium Leather Welding Gloves are made with Grade A Buffalo Leather that is made to take the heat and provide maximum abrasion resistance. Thes gloves are great for mig and stick welding. The Buffalo leather provide excellent fire and abrasion resistance. A great feature is the reinforced wear points along the thumb saddle, palm, finger caps and the drag patch for longer life. The size I wear is Medium and the fit snug and tight. Like any leather is will stretch over time. The gloves are 16” long and the sleeve is 9” long. The long open style cuff provides forearm protection when welding and grinding. The gloves are conformable and not bulky. It is easy to pickup things with this glove.

You can’t go wrong with a pair of DEWALT Premium Leather welding gloves. This glove is made of 100% grade-A buffalo leather and uses Kevlar thread throughout the glove. Buffalo leather is as tough as you can get, and the Kevlar thread resists heat and won’t burn or melt. The glove fits like a driving glove and is nice and tight around the wrist. I like how there are reinforced areas to help pull the glove on. At first, I thought the glove was cut a little small for a “large size” but with time the glove has formed to my hand. I the like the reinforced palm which will eliminate wear with time and use. I’ve only had the gloves for a few weeks but would recommend them to a fellow welder.

DEWALT DXMF04051 Premium Leather Welding Gloves, (1-Pair) The very first thing I noticed was the gloves are a size to small. I normally wear XL extra-large work gloves. These DeWalt gloves are very smug around the fingers. Finger depth was good, but the gloves are tight in the hand or palm area for an XL glove. I like the long cuffs approximately 8 and a half inches from the wrist. The cuffs also stayed around the arm without dropping down, but allow the use of a jacket while using the gloves The long cuffs are nice feature to protect your arm if wearing short sleeves from splatter, sparks and UV light exposure but disappointed in how snug the gloves are. The label in the gloves: Says cotton fleece lining, which I think is somewhat misleading as the only lining is the finger back and back of the hand part of the gloves. I also did not like that there is no extra lining in the finger-tip or actual palm. That was obvious when handling freshly cut metal from a cut off saw and after welding I prefer to use insulated gloves for stick or MIG and general work prep. These are like a TIG welding glove slightly thicker leather. The leather is Buffalo leather which should last longer ha cowhide. After wearing for several hours in an unaconditioned shop on a 105 plus degree outside there was only sweat marks and the gloves were still snug. Being an avid DeWalt contractor / owner since the early 90’s when I changed from the Black n Decker Professional line to DeWalt, I can say I was disappointed in the gloves since advertised as stick welding gloves, which would denote heavy duty gloves. My recommendation is based on TIG or 110 MIG use not stick and make sure you buy the gloves in the next largest size. I was unable to find any prices on the internet for these gloves so I cannot comment on price.

To start i was surprised to find these in 3xl. i have had a hard time finding gloves my size. usually i just make do with what i can find. These are well fitted supple gloves. very nice & comfortable. the sleeves on them could be an issue if i were trying to wear a jacket while welding. however i am in southern California. jackets are not needed often. although they can be important safety gear. i will definitely keep dewalt in mind for my next pair once i wear these out.

I have a strange purpose for these gloves. My cat loves to play boxing and tug-of-war, but I cannot play those with her unless I have some strong sturdy gloves because both her teeth and her claws are sharp. SO, these DEWALT Premium Leather Welding Gloves do the job just great and we have such fun -- thank you!
