A: Hello Nick, and thank you for your question and interest in Diablo sanding accessories. Where I do believe the Diablo Flap Disc will work at sanding the edges of porcelain, I would actually recommend using a finer grit sandpaper, or wet/dry sandpaper. The Diablo Flap Disc is intended for metal shaping and removal and afraid it may remove more material than desired. Hope this helps. Thanks.

GET THE JOB DONE FASTER
This is a 4 1/2 inch, metal, 60 grit (coarse) grinding and polishing flap disk. It is for grinding off a lot of metal in a shorter time than a higher grit flap disk. Going up in grit number will remove less metal but give a finer finish (more shiny).
Because of the conical design of the flap disk, you will have much greater ability to grind and polish at different angles. With flat sandpaper on a rubber pad you are limited to one angle while working. With the flap disk, you will get a much smoother finish. Also, because there are dozens of little pieces of sandpaper on the disk as opposed to one, you get a lot more work done in a shorter period and they last a lot longer than a single sheet of sandpaper.
Be careful when attaching your flap disk the first time. They are typically larger (thicker) than other 4 1/2" disks. Ensure that your wheel guard is set properly for the thicker wheel so the flap disk doesn't rub against it while in use.

I bought this to level a mismatched joint in 3/4 Plywood Subflooring. Even though the wheel says "steel", I was amazed at the speed of cut, with no loading up or burning.

True Grit
This product performs as advertised. I used it to remove paint and galvanized finish from a piece of channel that came from an old boat trailer, something I have done often with grinding wheels. The good news...the flap disc is MUCH faster, leaves a better finish and doesn't remove as much of the substrate material. I also used the disc to round over the edges of the channel, a chore which it handled well (just keep track of the disc rotation direction and the point of contact on the work piece when working on the edge). The bad news...make sure your angle grinder can accommodate this disc. I first tried using my oldest grinder, which does NOT have a pilot and seat integral with the shaft, relying on the two sided threaded nut to pilot the disc to a truly centered position (this disc does NOT have an integrally threaded portion to attach directly to the angle grinder). I did install it onto another, newer, angle grinder (that I usually reserve for cutting wheels) and, as it DID have an integral pilot bushing/seat on the shaft, it fit well and operated as intended. As a comparison, I performed the same removal operation using another, premium, disc and noted that the removal rate and surface finish were almost identical. The premium disc is integrally threaded (mounts directly to the tool shaft and doesn't require wrenches) and has a plastic backing plate which can be cut back to restore the "flap" flex needed after the disc has been worn down. The economics of choice will differ from user to user and, especially for the home shop user, the Diablo disc will prove to be an adequate choice.
Does what it is supposed to do. I used this with my angle grinder to take down the surface of some bricks and paver stones in order to taper the edges. Did a real good job real fast. The grinding disc has a 4-1/2in. diameter with a 60 grit ultra coarse finish. It is a conical design and recommended 12,000 rpm max and a 7/8in arbor. Also works well on metal and stainless steel to. Well made.
Dulled quickly. Not impressed. Only good thing is that it doesn't generate much sparks.

Yeah, works like a champ. Eats it up quickly. Fairly durable too. Really like these flaps.
