I cut copper and aluminum with it. It is more durable than grinding wheels, but not as fast.
You can use a bushing that converts from the smaller arbor to the larger, but consider - The adapter must be perfectly centered. Check out your backing washer. Many are reversible to accommodate both sizes. These spin at incredibly fast speeds, so any defects or off centeredness that could cause a wobble could result in failure. The other thing to consider is the thickness of the adapter, make sure the arbor washer will tighten on the disc.
Hi Joe, Unfortunately, these discs only come in a 7/8" arbor size. For a 5/8" metal cutting solution please see the link: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Avanti-Pro-4-in-x-1-16-in-x-5-8-in-Type-1-Metal-Cut-Off-Disc-PBD040063101F/202830986
