After 3 months of no issues, I started to see a steady stream of water from my backflow preventer. I have my water timer, backflow preventer, pressure reducer and then the irrigation tubing in this order. I put a new backflow preventer in and same issue immediately. Short of changing out the pressure reducer, any ideas on the problem? When I remove the backflow preventer altogether and hook the water timer directly to the pressure reducer, everything works fine. But I'm guessing this is not a good idea. Any help is appreciated!

Put the pressure reducer Before the back flow valve. You have too much psi in that line and its pushing the valve open

I helped install it on a friends irrigation system as well. Both leaked. Mine leaked from micro cracks on the side of the backflow preventer and no I'm not referring to the normal dispersion of water as part of its normal operation. Didn't last a year! Surprised to see the comment by DIG in one of the Q&A that it was unusual for this to happen. Read all the comments and the majority complained about leaks.

This DIG Hose Thread Backflow Preventer needs a redesign to improve its strength and resistance to temperature-related cracking. Do not over-tighten this device (on the input female end), it WILL crack and come apart and spray or leak. The seal-washer also needs to be improved to form an adequate seal without the need for excessive tightening of the connection. DIG will likely improve the design in the future, perhaps using a better material or another strategy.

They worked fine for few months, then three of them started to leak on sides via micro cracks. And it was summer, this was not a freezing issue. And was not a pressure issue as well, since there is a whole house pressure regulator/reducer in place to prevent sudden pressure changes in the line... I just assume at this point that this is not meant for a regular pressure even though it is rated 100psi...
