Yes, but the screen costs almost as much as just buying the entire unit. However, the screen is washable and pretty easy to clean. I have several that I have used for about 5 years now and I have never had to replace a screen on any of the units that I own; I just rinse them under running water.
As long as the direction of water flow is following the “screen arrow” molded on the side of the filter it can be oriented in any direction. If you have any other questions please contact our technical service/ product support line 1-800-344-1172.
The filter inlet is the side with the female threads. This is the side that must be connected to the water source. The arrow on the filter body marked SCREEN indicates the direction of flow. The filter outlet has the male threads. Disregard the other arrow with DISC.
Home Depot carries o-rings. If you can't remove the old one and take it with you for sizing, you can take the whole unit with you and size it that way.
All I can say is it will take whatever pressure you have on your house water system.
It may work for that to keep stuff out of the filter in the machine intake. I know how plugged up they can get especially if there is a lot of debris in the supply line. The screen usually used in the wash machine is a tiny bit bigger than the one in this filter but it couldn't hurt to give it a try. For ten bucks it won't break the bank and might just make it easier to keep the water clean to the machine. I'd put it somewhere easy to access so you could check it often and make sure it isn't leaking and easy to clean out when needed. Good luck, interesting idea.
I placed mine immediately after the faucet, in hopes that the pressure regulator would receive less of the larger particles my water system send through every now and then.
