Q:I had been looking for this product, in coarse, fine and extra fine for months. I didnt have the money to buy them all together, and felt there was no point to only have one, if I had to get them one at a time. I had searched for this on Home Depot site so i could charge it to my HDCard and could only find one of the three coarseness’ labeled under the correct manufacturer. I later happened upon this item, and realizing it was what I had been looking for, I ordered all three together. This should be labeled as a DMT (Diamond Machine Technology) item. I can confirm I ordered this item, and recieved a DMT Dia-sharp - Extra-Fine

High quality in a great size
I like the size, weight and convenience of this DMT Diamond Sharpening Stone (Model D8E, Made in USA). It's dead-flat and a great size (3”x8”) for sharpening smaller knives, scissors, and even chisels. It comes with 4 adhesive rubber feet which keep the plate from sliding during use. While it can be used dry, it's much more effective with a slight amount of water and frequent wiping to remove metal dust. The downside for me is the grit size. The Extra-fine plate (9 micron size, 1200 mesh) equates to roughly a P800 sandpaper, and that's too coarse for the final finish on chisel or plane blades for woodworking. Of course these whetstones come in 5 grits, so I could have chosen the Extra-Extra Fine for a finer finish, or even a coarser whetstone for more aggressive initial sharpening. But it will still find a fair amount of use sharpening various knives and scissors in my shop, and the price is reasonable for such a durable whetstone.

      Outstanding Sharpening Tool
These Dia-Sharp sharpeners are outstanding. Each weighs a couple pounds and they are completely dead flat for perfect sharpening. I use a lot of hand tools with my woodworking—planes, spokeshaves, chisels, and the like. I’ve been using oil stones like Arkansas and Norton stones for years. Those are effective, but they quickly develop pits, and take a decent amount of work to get a good edge. I’ve been hearing about DMT sharpeners for a while, and finally went ahead to see if they live up to the hype. They do. I acquired one each of the coarse, fine, and extra fine. These do an amazing job sharpening tools, quickly putting an edge on a dulled tool. They have a great “feel” to them as well—it’s pretty easy to tell just by the feel if a tool is sharpened. They only require a little bit of water to lubricate, and clean up quickly and easily with a shop towel. Though they are quite good and heavy, I find that putting a bit of shelf liner underneath is still necessary to keep it from sliding around on my workbench. I can’t recommend these highly enough if you have need to regularly sharpen any metal hand tools.

Good for fine tuning the edges
DMT DIASHARP SHARPENER PLATES Extra fine I am always up for trying out things that make sharp stuff sharper. Hence, DMT DIASHARP sharpener plates with continuous Diamond in fine and extra fine in the 8”x3” plates. I had three tools in desperate need of work, a vintage #3 hand planer blade, a vintage knife and a chisel. The packaging contains literature with various products that DMT manufactures, instructions and product recommendations for various needs. There is a QR link on box and several video offerings can be found on YouTube. I was impressed with these after I took them out of box and started using them. I need the course grit now , I realized it would have sped up the sharpening and shaping of the tools. The 8x3 plates come in 2 more grits over the other sets. They from xx course through xx fine. I could not find my sharpening guides so I free handed the work. None of the tools would cut melted ice cream. I bought two at estate sales and third I found in work shop. The two plates are very heavy, the extra fine had scratches and dents that showed through the layer of diamonds but did not inhibit its function. The fine seemed to have a few kart pieces of Diamond scattered around but did not seem to interfere. These are my first continuous Diamond plates. Before I used whet stones or the dotted plates. The extra course plate can also be sued to flatten whet stones before or during use. (NICE!). The size is right for a wide range of sharpening needs and can be used handheld. Invariably there are going to be much more higher end and expensive stones. But I think these work great for us average Josephine’s working in our workshops.

      Great sharpening stone
My husband had always wanted one of these sharpening stones. When I gave it to him, he was like a kid at Christmas opening the box! He couldn't wait to try it out and he was not disappointed. You don't need to use oil on them; they have little rubber feet on the bottom to keep them in place when using them. This Extra-Fine stone can be used to polish and refine a razor edge after sharpening with a coarser sharpening stone. The sharpening surface accommodates a range of edges from large knives to small pointed tools. They can be used to sharpen steel, tungsten, ceramic, or other hard materials. You will not be disappointed with this product.
