For the first coat, it states to use a brush. That’s pretty hard for a 2car garage. What do you recommend

I just put the first coat down and paint is tacky...NOW I read that I should have washed with TSP first even though it is on bare concrete.. a basement floor that only had dust.. paint comes off if I remove a pebble painted over... should I TSP over first coat and start over or hope for the best that after giving this coat time to dry and then do a second coat
Asked by: Gretchen
It will take a little longer to dry. Should be okay.

Asked by: smogemolly
It doesn't claim to be non-skid. I used on the floor in the basement and haven't noticed it to be slippery when slightly wet. Best answer I can provide.

About 5 years ago I applied this product to my basement floor and it's held up very well over the years. I had a little left still kicking around, so I painted over an area that gets a lot of foot traffic. Now I can see the difference between 5 years ago and today. BUT that's only in the color. It's faded to a lighter gray over time, but I've never had an issue with it peeling or cracking. There's even a spot on one side of my basement that gets about a 5' puddle of water once a year after the winter thaw and there's still no peeling. Applying it couldn't be easier. It has a very thin consistency and a little tends to go a long way. You're better off to do a thin coat and then reapply a second coat than go with a thick initial coat. I just attach my roller to an extension pole and dump the paint on the floor and roll it out. It's just a basement so it doesn't need to be neat and pretty. But it makes a big difference and the light gray color brightens the space a bit. It holds up well to high traffic spots and doesn't wear away.

This is a great product that I just used on my basement utility room floor. I didn't have bare concrete, there was glued down tile. When I pulled up the tile the adhesive was left behind. I did spend hours cleaning the floor and prepping the surface, used Zep concrete cleaner and some elbow grease. Let dry for 2 days and then applied the first coat with the added pint of water. floor coverage was about 475sq-ft. I ordered 3 gallons online just in case I needed the 3rd gallon. I only used 2 gallons and have just enough for touch up's when we start to move everything back in. The texture is great, not slippery at all. I put some water on the floor to test it out and no slippage. It does scratch easy, not sure if it's because of the tile adhesive. I looked at a lot of reviews and the great youtube of the guys applying to his garage floor. I wish I could have cleaned it more but very difficult to get all the cleaning water down the drain in the basement. Overall good product and happy with the results

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product works We live in a home with granite foundation and have had ongoing hydrostatic water issues for 8 years. Anything rain above a sprinkle will cause water to seep in from the floors and walls, causing standing water, a musty smell and damage to anything on the floor. I have to admit that I was a cynic and doubtful that "paint" would solve the problem. However, I pressure and then acid washed the walls and floor and used patching compound on any cracks or holes. I then applied two layers of drylock and thought "at least it looks better with a fresh coat of paint' In the past few months we've had a bunch of downpours and not a single drop of water has come through the walls or floor. The basement is much less humid and musty and I am a very happy customer. Well worth a few hundred bucks. Last note, I saw a few people complain about the smell. Candidly, it smells like latex paint and cures quickly. Within a day you can't smell it at all.

Painting your concrete garage floor has to be done properly from the beginning. We prepped the floor by washing it and scrubbing it thoroughly with dawn grease cutting detergent, rinsed it thoroughly, then after 2 weeks of drying we etched it with muriatic acid and rinsed it thoroughly. Once that dried for 2 weeks we decided to grind the floor with a diamond concrete floor machine rented at home depot. This was the messy dusty part which I will never do again, but got it ground down to essentially new looking very clean 150 grit texture concrete. This was vacuumed and washed and rinsed several times with several weeks of drying afterwards. This project was over 3 months in duration, because we wanted to do it properly. We did the moisture plastic sheet test, we did the tape concrete dust residual test, then we painted it with 2 coats of Drylok Dove Gray after shaking the paint thoroughly First coat per company specs 1 pint water to 1 gal and hand brushed it in. 2nd coat after 2 days drying full strength rolled it on. 2 weeks more of drying/curing, and then decided to park the honda civic in the garage as it was preparing to hail. The tires were cold and dry. The next morning I moved the car out and damned if this Drylok paint did'nt peel off the floor where the car sat for 16 hours. THIS IS CRAP PAINT SO DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON IT. GET SOME OTHER BRAND. Sad thing is I researched it and spoke to the Manufacturer 2 or 3 times before pulling the trigger. WHAT A WASTE OF EFFORT AND TIME and MONEY!!!!>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The Drylock concrete floor paint worked out well for me, as it was a small room (wine cellar) I used a brush and was worried the brush strokes would be noticeable, but people can't tell it was brushed, it looks great. It was easy to apply, it is thick enough to not drip, but the proper consistency to spread well. It dried in the time identified on the label, I applied the second coat the next day, and walked on it the day after that. It was still soft so I didn't move anything on it until the recommended five days. While I won't be parking a vehicle on it, so I don't know how it will do in a garage, for me, this was the perfect choice for covering a badly stained (including oil and rust spots) 50+ year old concrete floor and making it look nice. I would highly recommend this product, and I plan to use this product on my badly oil stained garage floor next year.

On a side note: I painted my shop floor ( 24 x 48 ) in December which meant the floor was very cold. Be sure to raise the temperature of the floor if possible as the manufacturer requires the floor temperature to be 50 degrees or higher. I used a salamander which worked very well. Also, the directions state that you can put the second coat on after 4 hours. I would recommend waiting 24 hours if possible to allow the paint to fully cure.I tried it after 4 hours, and it seemed a little tacky. Waiting until the next day worked much better. I hope this is helpful.

I used it over the drylok clear floor and seems to have adhered well. It's crazy that Home Depot doesn't carry this in the store, probably the only reason I might not buy it again.
