Can this paint be applied to drywall?
ByJul 14, 2025
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

No, DRYLOK® Original Masonry Waterproofer is not recommended for use on non-masonry surfaces such as drywall, sheetrock, metal, fiberglass, or wood. These materials do not allow proper bonding, and as a result, the product will not deliver effective waterproofing. DRYLOK Original is specifically formulated for application over bare concrete or masonry walls, where it can penetrate and form a secure, water-resistant barrier. If you have any additional questions please give us a call at 1-800-845-5227, Option 2.

Can this product be used to seal the corners of aluminum gutters?
      ByJul 7, 2025
      1 Answer |
      Answer This Question

Mike- No, DRYLOK Original cannot be used to seal metal surfaces. DRYLOK Original is a thick and sandy coating recommended to be used on bare, porous masonry walls.. if used on non-concrete surfaces like metal or wood there will be issues with peeling and flaking. Please give us a call with additional questions: 1-800-845-5227 Option 2.

Can you apply this to a damp block wall
        ByJun 18, 2025
        1 Answer |
        Answer This Question

John, No, DRYLOK Original should not be applied to damp walls, as moisture will interfere with its ability to properly cure. If the wall remains damp and does not dry out, we recommend using DRYLOK Wet Wall Bonding Primer as a first coat, applied directly over the bare, damp block. Apply 1-2 coats of the primer per directions, and once fully cured, topcoat with DRYLOK Original according to label directions. Please feel free to reach out if you’d like to discuss your project further at 1-800-845-5227 (Option 2) or via email at ugllabs@us.sika.com

Can you tint the DRYLOK original formula?
            ByMay 26, 2025
            1 Answer |
            Answer This Question

Hi Mellen! Yes, DRYLOK Original can be tinted to a lighter shade at your local Home Depot store. The store can add no more than 2 ounces of colorant per gallon. We do offer a color chart for DRYLOK Original on drylok.com or homedepot.com. You can also topcoat DRYLOK Original with a latex based house paint if you desire a more custom color. Please give us a call with questions, 1-800-845-5227 Option 2.

Can I put this on exterior slab that has crack to seal and make membrane from further dampness and water barrier
              ByMay 15, 2025
              1 Answer |
              Answer This Question

Tmasonry: No, DRYLOK Original is not made for use on a horizontal surface per our label. It is not designed to be walked on or covered over. We recommend sealing the crack with DRYLOK Fast Plug Hydraulic Cement, and then waterproofing the slab with DRYLOK Floor & Wall Masonry Waterproofer. Apply two coats to form a waterproof seal, and you can then lay flooring, carpeting, tiling, or a latex floor paint on top. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns, 1-800-845-5227 Option 2, or ugllabs@us.sika.com

                Not that great!!!
Applied 2 coats liberally, and the walls are still sweating. I now have to wait until its 100% to just apply foundation sealer (black tar stuff). I was hoping to avoid that because didn't want it to be so dark in the bulkhead area. I would keep applying more coats of drylok but if it didn't work after to thick liberal coats I doubt it will after a couple more. I am just going to do it the way i should've from the start. this stuff might work ok in a very very low water area... but not in an area where it really matters.

                  It Works
After replacing rotted wood windowsills on a bay window with PVC, Then try to create a slope to divert the water only to find out Water was getting in through the brick. Painted brick really does not look that bad I bought a home that was not maintained for a long while. After repairing and patching the brick and mortar, then coating it with dry lock. I have no more water intrusion👍

Works great in a concrete fish pond!
We built a fish pond several years back and due to cost and ease of use, we pick Drylok Original in the grey color. The grey color perfectly matches our concrete, which looks amazing but harder to tell if you missed a spot painting. We did three coats and pond held water perfectly for almost three years, until we got a small crack in the concrete. Drained the pond, pressure washed, filled hole, let dry, and reapplied the Drylok. Simple process and within two weeks (let cure longer due to cooler temps outside), the pond was water tight again. Works great, easy to apply, don't have to worry about liner creases and if you do get a leak, simple and easy to repair to be water tight again.

                        Good on Foundations
My house's foundation needed some TLC. Prepped the surface by power washing, scraping portions of the old finish off where peeling, filling cracks with DAP out of a caulk gun and throwing on a very healthy coat of primer once crack repair set and dried. Drylok white went on the following day once the primer set and cured. The drylok is thicker than your average paint, I recommend not spreading it too thin. Ended up with two finish coats. Applied with brush and a large roller. Good stuff.

                          Beautiful Finish
This product delivered a beautiful finish in an otherwise dreary basement. It’s very thick and the cement kept drinking the first coat Took me over an hour. Once I got that first coat on the second coat was easy breezy. I used both brush and roller. I love the white clean bright look of my newly painted basement. I still have one little section to finish. Thanks drylock ! I would recommend this product.

Excellent, Easy, Safe and Cost Effective
We have a concrete wall that was seeping water through cracks - as much as two inches would accumulate at the base of the wall next to the oil burner. We used 2-3 coats this summer and it took just less than one gallon on a nice 80 degree day and was dry the next day. No leaks at all since! Safe to use right next time the burner too. We left the bulkhead open and wore masks and had no problem with fumes. Great product!!
