AnswerGood day Dan, Trowel sizes vary with age. That said, with a new trowel the 3/16 v-notch will work. I use a carpet seam roller to roll the membrane into the thin set mortar, this will assure a better bond. Periodically peel back a corner of the membrane to check coverage is a very good practice. AnswerGood day Kathleen, The Durabase CI++ is made for floor applications for tiles 2 inch square and bigger, however you can use it on kitchen backsplashes. The OSB should be primed and the thin set mortar to be used to set the Durabase CI++ should be suitable for OSB applications.

I should have stuck with cement board. It cut...
I should have stuck with cement board. It cut and was easy to put down until it dried lumpy and is impossible to remove.

I’m sorry you had a bad experience with our product. As I understand you liked the way the Backerlite cuts and it is my understanding that the Backerlite bonded very well. I think the problem here is the size of the notched trowel. If there is to much thin set mortar under the Backerlite, rolling or pushing the backerlite into the mortar can create lumps.
