We would not recommend this for two reasons: 1. The Stain Blocker is formulated to prevent stains and wood tannins from existing surfaces from penetrating thru a newly painted surface and not necessarily for this application, and 2. This is an acrylic-based stain blocker and will not mix well with a latex paint. We would recommend that you use a broad wall paint that is weather/moisture resistant for your bathroom. Thank you! -DecoArt Paint Guru
This product is a stain blocker and sealer, but it is not waterproof. It is designed to prevent stains and wood tannins from bleeding through paint. It dries to a clear, durable finish and is recommended for painting from darker colors to lighter colors. It's important to note that while it seals the surface, it doesn't provide waterproofing. For exterior wood projects or surfaces exposed to moisture, you'll need a dedicated waterproof sealant.
One 8 oz. jar covers approximately 40-50 sq. ft. While the product description doesn't specify whether sanding is required before application on varnished wood, it's generally recommended to lightly sand and clean any surface before applying a stain blocker for better adhesion and to ensure a smooth, even finish. This will also help the stain blocker penetrate the existing finish more effectively. You can refer to the "Use and Care Manual" on the product page for more detailed instructions.
