Defiant provides security and convenience with the new Wi-fi Electronic Deadbolt. This deadbolt can be unlocked several ways. Remotely (with the Hubspace App when utilizing the included smart indoor plug), Bluetooth (with the Hubspace App), Digital keypad or a traditional key (2 keys included). Installation is easy with no hardwiring required and only requires a Phillips screwdriver for existing cutouts (Pre-drilled). This unit is ideal for entry doors between 1-3 in./8 in. to 1-3 in./4 in. thick.

Q:How do you change the lock direction for this lock? It seems to only work for a left hand door and I need it for a right hand door.

Q:Why is there no information about Bluetooth? I have had the lock installed less than 3 months and the hub /outlet died; being a lock it should not require pairing every time you want to lock or unlock via Bluetooth. I see no name for pairing anyway.

        Great upgrade to my smart house
        I have several smart home products and already had a key pad deadbolt but it wasn’t “smart” as it needed a monthly subscription to use those features. This lock is truly smart with no additional fees or subscriptions needed. Install is as easy as any other deadbolt, a few screws and about 10 minutes and it’s on. As for the technology, this has been fantastic. First off, it comes with a smart plug that acts as a hub for the lock, with that connected to your home WiFi you can lock and unlock from anywhere via the free app. You can also get notifications every time it is locked or unlocked. You can set a main passcode, and multiple other code if you want a separate one for a cleaning service etc. The fingerprint tech is also really good. Every person in the family has set one up and it’s super quick to get in the house now. This has been a perfect addition to my smart house and hasn’t had any hiccups yet!

        Great lock
        Very stylish deadbolt. We mainly have aged bronze look throughout the house locks and this fits perfectly in. The wi-fi electronic deadbolt can be unlocked with the app or the regular lock keys which I prefer for the older people in my house. They have a hard time using technology so the keys help with the seniors in the house. The lock includes everything you need to install and batteries are also included.

        Safe, fun and cool
        I have used the Definat Touchpad Deadbolts before, so it is becoming my go to brand. This is a replacement for my existing deadbolt, which seems to be losing battery power every few weeks. Luckily, installation was a breeze for me. Just had to take out the old one and put this one in. Times has certainly changed when now changing the pin and setting things up are all based on the app. Fingerprint access is really cool. But what I love is that it still has a key as a backup.

        Cable Won’t Connect
        This lock feels well made & I’ve got several items already using the hub space app, so I was excited to add it to the mix. It comes packaged well and the instructions are illustrated, which I appreciate. But alas, while the rest of the lock feels well made, the connector port that the cable attaches to connecting the keypad side to the deadbolt/battery compartment had a bent wire, so the cable won’t click into place. I thought maybe I could straighten it, but I’ve spent a couple evenings messing with it to no avail.

        The Defiant Hubspace Biometric Fingerprint lock is a complete fail.
        The Defiant Hubspace Biometric Fingerprint lock is a complete fail. I had high hopes when I opened the box. It was well appointed and looked impressive. I read through the instructions noting the does and don'ts of the installation and it seemed simple enough. I was actually impressed with the detail provided. However, I as got into the physical installation of the lock mechanism that is where things went sideways. When assembled the thumb knob would not operate the bolt mechanism. I felt sure that I had followed the instructions having the thumb knob in the correct position with the bolt mechanism installed properly with the torque blade in the horizontal position as instructed, but I took it apart and double checked just to be sure. That is when I notice something off. I could turn the thumb knob in only one way to go from the vertical to horizontal position, which I would expect. I could also turn the torque blade from horizontal to vertical to operate the bolt. However, the thumb knob would line up and allow the torque blade to turn and operate together only when the plate where the thumb knob was located was rotated 90 degrees to the left. I thought surely there is a reset function that I must do to get back on track. Nope. Nothing I could do would resolve the issue. My conclusion is that the thumb knob assembly was not put together incorrectly during manufacturing. However, I wanted to make sure I was not missing something. This is when I discovered that the other instructions were less than the stellar credit I had given earlier, as the troubleshooting guide did not touch on making changes to the thumb knob settings. Although, troubleshooting guides typically are not setup to rectify manufacturing issues, which I believe to be the case here. Furthermore, there did not appear to be any information on setting up codes in the lock itself in any of the printed materials. I thought maybe there is information in the app, but it proved to be no assistance as I could never get the app to recognize the locks presence. The plug that came with the lock worked fine with the app, but the part where it is to be used as a gateway to the lock never recognized the lock. The keypad would only beep and the lights would come on making me think it was operational, but it too was apparently defective. I would not recommend this item based on this experience.

        Thank you for taking the time to post your review of the Defiant Hubspace Biometric Deadbolt. After reading your review, here is what we heard you say and what we think may have cause the issue:

        1. "When assembled the thumb knob would not operate the bolt mechanism." - What you felt is the "bump" of the clutch mechanism in the thumb turn. This is addressed in the troubleshooting guide in question number 4 "Feel a bump while turning the thumb turn or the key". If the battery pack is off of the door, you can turn the thumb turn rotate a full 360 degrees. You may feel a bump, but you can turn past the bump. It will not damage the unit by doing this. Once the deadbolt is fully installed on the door, you can resolve this by setting the bolt direction through the Hubspace App. We agree that this can be explained better. We will work to address and correct the wording to provide a better experience.

        2. "The keypad would only beep and the lights would come on". - The keypad does not function until you set the Admin pin. The Admin PIN code can be set in the Hubspace App. Again, we will work to address this in our troubleshooting guide to help provide a better experience.

        3. "The plug that came with the lock worked fine with the app, but the part where it is to be used as a gateway to the lock never recognized the lock." - We believe that the lock setup process was not completed in the Hubspace app causing the gateway to not recognize the deadbolt. We will also work to improve the communication of the setup process in the Hubspace app.

        Good solid security device that works weel with the app.
        Install was quick. Everything lined up from the prior deadbolt which was helpful. Ended up using it on the backdoor to allow for remote entry for guests. Seems sturdy and deadbolt extends into the reciever side for enough that it seems secure. Setting it up in the app was easy and using the smart plug that came with it allows for really good Bluetooth range to be able to open the door using my phone. I even get a message when it's locked and unlocked via the Hubspace app. Setting up the PIN and changing the PIN is super fast in the app. Setting up the different using fingerprints was easy as well via the app. Really cool thing is it pings my Smartwatch when the door is unlocked. Came with 4x AA batteries and all of the necessary hardware for various install scenarios.

        Great lock that includes its own backup plan.
        I got this lock to solve a problem I had with my old fingerprint only lock. For some reason my wife’s fingerprints are not read well and she was constantly locked out of the house and had to use the app to open the door. As you can imagine she wasn’t happy which meant neither was I, until I installed the Defiant Hubspace lock that is. The Hubspace features a biometric fingerprint reader as well as a keypad for PIN entry. This is great in situations where your fingerprint can’t be read. For example if your hands are wet from running to the door in the pouring rain. You want to get the door open quickly and the PIN is the solution to this problem. The lock was very easy to install. It took about 10 minutes for the mechanical installation and about another 10 minutes to configure the app. The setup was straightforward and I didn’t have any problems. Strong points: Can be unlocked five different ways, fingerprint, PIN, with the app, with your voice assistant and with a key. Lock can be configured to automatically lock after a specified period of time. This is great if you’ve got kids that always leave the door unlocked. Includes 2 standard keys. Uses standard AA batteries. I am using rechargeable lithium ion batteries and it works great. Weaknesses: The lock is slow to unlock. The motor runs for about 5 seconds before the door can be opened. There is no geofence Auto Unlock feature that another one of my smart locks has. There is no way to temporarily disable the automatic lock feature.

        A lot in a small package
        Defiant's Hubspace-connected fingerprint-enabled deadbolt lock packs a lot into a compact package. It definitely gets 5 stars from me for Design - not only is the lock itself simple to use (supports multiple PIN codes and multiple fingerprints), the Hubspace app is well-designed and is also integrated with several well-known home-automation systems. As far as security goes, it's a run-of-the-mill deadbolt; pretty simple keying, and moderate-strength components. Nothing to be ashamed of, but also nothing to write home about. The included bluetooth-to-wifi relay outlet was easy to set up and use.

        Easy to install and convenient to see who is coming and going
        This is my second connected/smart lock. Install is pretty much like any other deadbolt lock, just need to make sure the wire connecting the inside portion is routed correctly to the outside portion so the wire isn’t chaffed. Also making sure the dead bolt aligns well with the opening in the striker is important. If the bolt hits anything because they are not aligned properly, the deadbolt doesn’t work reliably unless a key is used and even then it takes more effort. The fingerprint reader seems to work well. The keypad works well too, but if you have dirty/greasy/oily fingers it does leave evidence of what numbers you use for your code. The key lock is not a high security quality, I was able to pick it in a few minutes and I am a novice at best. It was not so easy that it could be raked, but I am a novice at best. The connected/smart features are nice and work well. Setup is nothing special, follow the instructions if you really need to, but the app pretty much tells you everything you need to do. There is no connecting to Smartthing, but it works with Google and Alexa. Also to use the wifi there is a module that needs to be plugged into an outlet. The lock is bluetooth and the module is a bluetooth/wifi interface. Would have been nice if the lock did not need the module. The app allows you to add and remove codes easily and change other settings. Nice to have notification of who and when is entering your home. Smart locks are handy for when you have a house or pet sitter. Less worry of keeping track of keys or if they are being copied. And if someone forgets their code I can unlock it remotely or lock it remotely if someone forgets.

        Making my door smart while staying informed
        I got the Hubspace deadbolt from Defiant because it is not just smart but it also has a fingerprint function to unlock the door, other ways to open the door are using the key, using a PIN by using the digital keypad or the Hubspace app via Wifi or Bluetooth. The Hubspace deadbolt comes with several things, the deadbolt, 4 AA batteries, 2 keys just in case they are needed, instructions, the application and even a smart plug. The installation is easy, not only because it comes with well explained instructions but also because the Defiant lock videos are very informative to do so. Once installed then downloading the Hubspace app makes it easy to setup the deadbolt, I already have the application on my phone because I have a few lights including track lights paired with it, so it is simply adding a device using the QR Code, naming it and done. And all this is basically just following the application step by step setup so it is super easy. It works with 2.4 Ghz Wi-Fi not 5 Ghz PINs are also easy to add on the application so I can open the door using my PIN and I can add up to 10 other PINs so family and friends can open the deadbolt. Fingerprint reader is a cool feature, can add fingerprint just like my phone and it is easy to get in, and the fingerprint can be setup by itself or have a two factor authorization so there has to be another action to open the door and this is optional. Options, the door can lock by itself in seconds or minutes, or not, but I do like it to lock by itself because I no longer have to remind my family to lock the door, it does it for me. The smart plug is a plus, add device on the app and I can control whatever is plugged into it, such as a side table lamp. The application can control the lock and it also it gives you information when the door was unlocked and who did so when they used their PIN. Overall it looks great, Defiant offers plenty of information to install it, the application is easy to setup and understand as well as use, the deadbolt is well made and complete.
