Would this work to vent my dryer through my attic crawl space

Asked by DIYFixer September 18, 2020
1
Answer

No, this is not UL 2158A rated so it should not be used for dryer venting.

would this work for return air lines for the A/C. need to add a line.

Asked by Tony April 2, 2020
1
Answer

Without knowing the floor plan of the homeowner who wants to add the return duct I would not recommend a non insulated flex duct. Sizing of the duct is also very important and should be conducted by an HVAC technician. Using any type of duct that is the wrong size could damage the HVAC appliance. The 8" flex duct can be used for this application but I would not recommend it because of the reasons above.

Answer

This duct is designed for general venting applications (e.g., bathroom venting). It is also suitable for exhausting air from a kitchen exhaust fan. The operating temperature range of this duct is 0.4 degrees Fahrenheit to 266 degrees Fahrenheit. It is always recommended to check with your local building codes or authority and the appliance manufacturer to ensure compliance to local codes (e.g., venting fans to the outside of the house) and that the product is approved for the specific application.

This might be just what you expect. It is made of what appears to be the same material as a shiny mylar balloon or some snack bags. In other words, it is a shiny, lightweight material adhered to an overgrown Slinky. It worked to direct safe air from a ventilator.to a crawl space and survived.
