I am happy I purchased this spindle sander. First, because of full-size. Second, because of its overall durability. Initially, I was going to purchase another brand but after waiting for 2 months without the sander being restocked...I gave up. I'm glad I did. This Delta sander comes with sanding sleeves unlike the "white" competitor which does not. The oscillating transmission comes with a ball valve which is attached to an approximate 2 foot drain tube...making the 800 hour oil change simple and clean. It also has a oil-level sight glass. I have read of a couple complaints regarding changing of the spindles. To me, this hasn't been a problem. Simply take off the hole plate and open the rear cover and loosen the two lock nuts and then unscrew the spindle. None of these spindle items need to be more than "snug tight". Overtightening them will give you headaches. The hole plates when inserted are slightly lower than the main table but I found a couple layers of electrical tape on the underside of the plates fixed the problem...cheap and simple - no need to drill and tap holes for set screws and have to adjust them for every plate. Personally, the hole plates are good "as is" but since I had the time to tinker I figured I might as try to make them perfect. My only true complaint is the number of open spaces that can cause a loss of suction capacity from your dust collector. There are two slots on the upper cabinet sides and vent slots on the motor cover. Taping over some of these slots improves the dust collection - clear duct tape or contact paper is what used as it is barely visible. Overall, with some of these vent holes covered up the dust collection is very good.

Good sander, some setup issues
The unit came well packed, and before the stated delivery date. The home depot team loaded it with the fork truck onto my trailer when I asked, which was nice given the weight of the unit. However there were a couple problems ounce I got it unpacked. First the plastic motor housing had two cast hinge pins that were designed to slide into metal loops on the machine's main housing. The motor housing is made out of a pretty non-ductile plastic. So one was broke straight out of the package. So I used some 3/16th inch metal rod to form a replacement hinge pin. Not a huge problem, but a problem none the less. Secondly the dust fitting exits out the middle rear. This probably wouldn't be a problem except that I also purchased the delta mobile base, which the foot pedal then interferes with the dust port. So I removed the factory plate and dust port and made a wood plate and purchased an offset plastic dust port to prevent the interference. The good news with this one is I was able to use the sander to make the wood plate. The manual also seems out of date, as it references allot of items that do not seem to be in the package, but also aren't needed. Finally the spindle changes are a bit cumbersome, and the wrenches included with the set are coated with paint making the fit onto the spindle nuts extremely tight. And for some reason they used two different sizes hex drives from the spindle to the drive side that are almost indistinguishable. This leads to a guess and check method of figuring out which wrench goes where. The unit does sand well though, and the dust collection is pretty efficient. The tilting spindle (instead of tilting table as on some of the models) is nice too. I purchased from Home -Depot because Delta stopped shipping to my local specialty woodworking store. So viewing the unit set up in the store was not an option, and none of the associates even knew what the unit did or what it looked like. So the expertise was lacking.
