You'd put a regular shower elbow in, or whatever female fitting you're putting in the ceiling. This simply screws into the female fitting you install on the end of your water feed. The photo and description are misleading--that isn't a mounting flange that screws into the sheet rock. that is simply a friction fit escutcheon like behind your sink or toilet. The other end of the pipe looks EXACTLY like the one you're seeing in the photo.

Is the stainless the same as nickel or satin?

The finish is beautiful aside from some very slight crazing along one "edge" of the pipe, like it was set down on something that isn't soft. However, there is no way to see the flaw when it's installed. I had to get my 9" shower pipe tight as tight can be, and my pipe wrench ended up digging in, so the only blemishes that are actually visible are because of me. Darn...and I LOVE having my rain head shower working! It's so good. I debated between 6" and 9", and ended up ordering the 9" because I didn't want the water to air-cool in front of the window before hitting me, so I made it closer. It's the perfect length, and I'm glad I got the 9". One area that would be easy to improve is the flange, i.e. escutcheon. It's not a mounting flange at all, it's the simple push on escutcheon that is used behind every valve in your house--sinks, toilets, etc. It does not defy gravity, and I didn't tweak the tabs to dig in more because I didn't want to scratch the finish. A simple wrap of tape up high should be enough to give the escutcheon enough friction to stay up on the ceiling. Great finish on a great pipe that makes for a great rain shower. This is a winner.
