What is the hp for this 15 amp saw, Model 36-5152T2
The 10" Contractor Table Saw Model 36-5152T2 15 AMP motor is 1HP Motor.
The product literature is a bit vague (ok, there was no mention in the manual) but the website says 1PH, which is either Peak Horsepower or Horsepower (HP) backwards. It is clearly a 15 amp motor and should be plugged into a 20 amp circuit and therefore is in the 1HP range where with all other 120V 15amp motors. Power has not been an issue for me so far but I've not worked with really hard or extraordinarily thick woods. It re-sawed some 3.5" thick poplar with a good ripping blade absolutely no problem.
Can this saw be used without the rip extension attached?
Yes
The answer is "yes"-- but. I would say it could be modified for use without the extension wings. They do not pop off and on easily. The front and rear rails for the rip fence attach to the extension wings and even if unbolted you would have this giant bar sticking way out. Sure you could cut it off (it is HEAVY gauge steel, very sturdy) if you were downsizing a used saw but buy the table without the extensions otherwise.
Several reviewers mentioned failed motors. I would like to buy this saw but am concerned about getting a bad motor.
