If you have an existing fan/light combo it would be possible, but challenging. The fan design is clever to allow much of the installation below the ceiling. The mounting box/electrical box and fan mechanicals are separate (interesting, the answer from Delta Breez above is wrong on this). The hole for the fan is big enough that you would have a chance to install wood above the ceiling to receive the mounting screws. You could conceivably do the electrical wiring below the ceiling level, but this would be very hard. The fan connection is clever to allow you to pull the fan through the box, then connect the adapter. The problem is that for an existing fan, you won't have extra length of electrical wiring or exhaust vent to work a foot below the ceiling. The fan has many functions, so you may need to add additional switch wiring to get the best results.

1. Not sure 2. Per manual: flip the switch on, fan goes into auto mode. Flip it off and on again to turn it on full speed. 3. Not that i am aware of. If you don't want the sensor, get one without it. Model # SIG110

What size fan should I buy for a 38 s.f. bathroom?

Air movement is typically measured in cubic feet per minute (CFM). Ventilation rates based upon eight air changes per hour are generally suggested. For most bathrooms this works out to one CFM per square foot of bathroom area. For example, a 7' x 10' bathroom would require a 70 CFM fan. My take on this is more air movement is better - especially if there is no other ventilation. 38 square feet @ 8 ft ceiling = 304 cubic feet.

I don't know as both mine were installed in my bathrooms on flat ceilings & they are recessed up into the ceiling space above. I believe they are intended for bathrooms; as they pull moisture up from the shower to prevent mildew. Mine are preforming great for that purpose. I would consult your electrician.

Sooooooooo quiet. Replaced a 10 yr old fan with this one, really pleased with the upgrade. Install was a bit tricky because of roof line but not too difficult. Leaving it on humidity setting, the phase indicator light doubles as a nightlight. Very happy with this choice.

I was pleasantly surprised when I unpacked this Delta exhaust fan. I found its compact design and the adapter plate for connection with the exhaust piping, just what I needed to facilitate a difficult upgrade installation. It was possible to install the fan in a very tight space utilizing the flange manufactured on the box for a flush instalation. The unit is very quiet and its humidity sensor is a plus in that it can be left on to completely evacuate moist air. I have not owned this fan long enough to comment on durability but based on the construction I think that this unit will give many years of trouble free operation.

I had my family Electrician install it. I had a single switch & he had to go into the Attic & run line which was no problem. What I like most , is having the Blue light on & when I start my shower as the steam starts generating the fan turns on & I can hear it not loud. When I'm finish taking a shower & it's all steamed up in the bathroom, I turn the lights off only the unit is still running absorbing the humidity. I come back later & all the humidity is gone & the fan turns off when it senses no more humidity. It's been 3 weeks now & no problem. The other feature is you can turn on the amber light to run fan only when doing #2 in the bathroom (haha) to absorb any odor not to linger. Then you can turn off fan & go back to Blue light waiting for humidity before it starts to run. I like what Delta Breez installed in this unit.
