Questions & Answers

Will this 8in dado saw blade works on a 10in Dewalt job site table saw

Asked by: Reza
No, from the manual of the DW745 (which I own) on page 10: "NOTE: This saw is not intended for use with dado blades and molding cutters. Personal injury may occur"

Does this set come with a throat plate ?

Asked by: Pete
No, you can make your own zero clearance throat plate to fit your saw. Some saws have dado blade throat plates available.

Can I use one of the blades by itself for rips and crosscuts?

Asked by: Brian
You probably could, but the teeth are angled for either a right or left side of the blade, with flat top teeth at every other position. Standard saw blades have teeth pointing in both directions.

End blades have left or right angled tips followed by flat topped tips. Ensure you install them in the correct side of the stack. The 3 chippers are all flat topped tips. This set gives a perfectly flat bottomed dado. The only part that would require any touch up work would be where you install shims, but that is minimal. I cut test dados in plywood (with grain, cross grain, and rabbit edge), MDF, and hardwood. All dado edges were clean without chip out in all materials. Some tests were done with a support sled and others were with the wood directly on the saw table - I couldn't see any difference. A backer board should be used on the trailing edge to prevent chip out - common. There are many shims and spacers included in the set. A chart is provided to tell you what combinations are required to get the width you want. A test cut probably still should be used to ensure a perfect fit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice set It includes 2 outside blades, 3 chippers Not 2chippers, spacers and shims. You can get additional shims but the diversity of this product for anything dado for the price is very good. Pay the extra for the Diablo/Freud technology. Anytime I try to save money and get cheaper blades at first I end up buying a Diablo/Freud later and spending more than I wanted to originally. Just get one. 4 stars because the store should carry SD206 Pro blades from the same manufacturer as this one I bought in a rush. An 8 inch Dado blade is unnecessary on many of the lower powered table saws that the DIYer will buy. A 6 inch blade like the SD206 would do a better job, put less strain on the motor of your table saw, is a Professional version from the same manufacturer and is cheaper. But the HD purchaser is smarter than I am (apparently) and the reviewer of the Customer Reviews probably will kick this back with some excuse to me by email so the guy/gal who needs to know will remain in the dark. Thanks.

Blades appear to work well, the two outside blades were supposed to yield a .250 dado but in fact required a .013 shim to get close, not sure what this says about the included chart which lists blade, chipper, shim combos to get various dado widths. The shims are laser marked with their thickness but the markings were hard to read. Double checked with a micrometer and marked them in permanent marker. The blades worked well and produced nice clean dado's just be aware that you will need double check the stack width if using the included chart.

I used this Dado Stack for two types of cuts in my window shutter project, a Rabbet cut and a dado cut. For the Rabbet cuts I was somewhat disappointed. The Stack leaves ridges in the wood when making a Rabbet cut. The depths of the cuts are more uneven than I expected, and may be the result of 1) each saw tooth is cut with a relief (not flat on the end), and 2) I had to make multiple passes to get the width I needed. For the dado cuts the ridges were essentially invisible and therefore not a problem, but the cut width was important. The information given about how many chippers, spacers and shims are needed to make a specific cut width is not accurate. Always make a test cut to see if the Blade Stack is making the cut width you need. Calipers are handy for this task, for both measuring the width of the cut and measuring the width of the spacers and shims. For the purpose of making window shutters I think the quality of the Rabbet cuts will suffice, but I would hesitate to recommend this product for furniture quality work if Rabbet cuts are required.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome. Perfect. Noobie. Never used a dado before my life. After adjusting my table saw in multiple increments I finally said screw it and bought this set. (Im making thomas the train track shelves for storage and display for my sons room). Glad I went with this one and not the cheaper one. It works real good when both blades are facing forward like they're supposed to. Lol. Yeah my first test cut I had one blade on backwards. Hey I said I was a newbie. My only complaint keeping it from getting five stars is the probted/etched sizes on the shims are not all very legible espectially rhe really thin ones. The inclusion of more durable and larger printed instructions would be better too. Anyhow...project is coming along grey thanks to this dado. My "plunging" the boards into and off of the blade shy of the ends is prolly not the safest thing to do but the end product is so much better.

I've had my eye on this for a while and am so glad I finally purchased. I am a hobby woodworker at best, but this dado set has opened up so many possibilities for me. Did a trial run with it and it went so smoothly that I jumped right into my first project with it.

Setup is straight forward and dead on, meaning if you set it up for a 3/4" dado, that's EXACTLY what you're going to get. I feel like the 12-tooth setup is better for my standard 110V saw.
