Questions & Answers

Is this safe to use in a woodstove?

Is this safe to use in a woodstove?
Asked by: Jonny
Yes - But it may depend on your stove. I've read where it's suggested that you don't, however we've used them to start fires in ours for years with no problems, no negative results to the stove. We have it cleaned and maintained by a professional chimney sweep and he sees no problem in using them. We love them (-:

The rating for this product would have been higher if the fire sticks would have burned anywhere close to 12 minutes (I got between 5 and 7 minutes while trying to start a fire in my fireplace. If I had to guess, I would say the 12 minute time was in a laboratory with perfect conditions and was timed till the very tiniest of flames had finally got out. The strike pad on the back is a fun feature. It is like lighting 10 matches all at once. I have used about half the box and so far each stick has successfully lit. If you are using it to light a campfire or a BBQ grill I would say you will be pleased with your purchase. Hope this review helps.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I was doubtful, but they work great I bought these on a whim because I was sick of spliting kindling and they were cheap enough. I have a wood stove in my house and another in the detached garage, I light atleast 1 fire every day for about 3 months and these have never failed. Lay 2 logs down pointing each other, light the match, lay it on top, and put a 3rd log on top making sure not to smother it. No newspaper, no kindling.

Perfect for starting fire-pits, wood stoves (I've read web info that says don't use them in wood stoves, but we've used them for years, no problem), campfires, etc. No kindling or paper needed. Only suggestion to mftr is that the striking strip be a bit wider and sturdier - you deplete striking surface 2/3rd through the box.

The other three had to be light with a match. Once lite, they did burn and were able to successfully get the fire in my wood burner going. It's just the liting like a match was a problem.

You do need to keep these in a watertight container, or they won't strike very easily. BUT, even damp, they quickly light with a match and get that little pile of charcoal blazing in minutes.

These over/sized matches that stay lit & burn for 12-15 minutes get your fires started. They are phenomenal. Just stack some smaller split pieces of wood amongst a big match and watch it work.
