Q:How many BTUs does this produce? Will it heat like a gas heater? What built in electric fireplace will give out the most heat?

A:  HI, The SIL60 will give you 4777 BTU's. You will need a fireplace that is hard wired 240V The new BOLD units XLF5017-XD (smallest) will give 8530 BTU's. Dimplex fireplaces are 100% efficient. All the energy supplied to the unit is converted into heat, which stays in the room to keep you warm. Many gas fireplaces advertise 70-80% efficiency.           Sil 60 from dimplex
          Received my electric fireplace today. Within 30 mins it was installed and working great! Lots of different colour selections and it gives off some good heat. Looks great!

            Unit EXPLODES! Do NOT buy, HAZARD
            We bought this to replace an excellent, similar electric fireplace (from a different company), that had worked wonderfully for 12 years. This unit didn't heat anywhere near as efficiently as our old one. Not only does it heat poorly, while I was watching tv one evening, the unit spontaneously EXPLODED, it sounded like a shotgun blast. It threw glass into 3 rooms. Projectile style! See the photo. If I had children, or were injured, an attorney would be involved, they still may be, the company has been HORRIBLE to deal with. This still remains unresolved.

                Worked wonderfully for a few weeks until now
                We just had this unit installed a few weeks ago. It worked great. Now the heater fan shuts off after a few minutes and if you turn the flame on it makes a clicking sound. Now what are we supposed to do rip it out and take it back to the store ?

                  [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I didn't realize how much of a must-have these things are until I got one. I will go over the functionality and specs of it in a second, but I want to talk about the cosmetics first. I am still in the process of constructing the built-in entertainment center (picture attached) that this is going in, but it already looks amazing and makes the entire room feel more elegant and comfortable. Right now I am going with the logs, but I like that I have the option to switch to the rocks or glass. I like that you have the option to hang it, mount it, or built it into the wall. There was almost ZERO assembly required. I only had to attach the front glass and plug it in! There are so many options to this that you can make it look and do whatever you want! If you just want the fire and no heat, it's as easy as turning it on and NOT clicking the heat button. I live in a place that is pretty warm ALL year so I love that I can use it as a cosmetic piece. The heater only takes a few seconds to start blowing heat and you can adjust the temp! This seriously adds a lot to the look and feel of the room. I am extremely happy with it!

                    Very easy to assemble. The option of also having it hung on the wall as opposed to "in wall" made it very convinient and looks seemles with the appropriate backdrop. I suggest using toggle bolts attaching the brackets to drywall, considering the glass does have some weight to it. The LED fire simulator seems surprisingly real. The heater feature will have some odor when initially turning it on. Nevertheless work great.
