4300 Series 1.8 Amp Variable Speed Corded Rotary Tool Kit with Mounted Light, 64 Accessories, 9 Attachments and Case is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 102.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Platinum Edition Set This kit includes the main Dremel tool (4300) and nearly every attachment, except for the more specialty ones, and tons of accessory bits. If you are someone who uses a rotary tool for a lot of different jobs, this is the kit for you. At first I thought the case was a bit too much, but seeing all that comes with it, its nice to be able to store/organize everything well. It comes with 9 attachments: pivot light attachment, shield, cutting guide, right angle attachment, sanding/grinding guide, detailer's grip, circle cutter / straight edge guide, garden tool sharpener, and Flex-shaft. The Flex-shaft essentially turns the tool into a smaller easier to control tool for the most precise detail work. It comes with 2 smaller cases filled with lots of accessory bits for various jobs. There are too many to list, but a couple I really like are the 2 "EZ" bits for easily changing cutting discs and sanding drums and a fan attachment that keeps debris out of your work area so you can see better. If you are new to rotary tools: This tool can do so many different things (drill, sand, cut, carve, grind, clean/polish, etc), but I wouldn't say that it could be used as a replacement for all other specific tools like a drill or saw. It does the jobs that those other, larger, tools can't do. This means jobs that are smaller, require more fine detail or precision, etc. If you are just starting out and know you need a rotary tool for one or two specific tasks, this may not be the kit for you because it includes so many things that you may not ever use. However, if you do a lot of those smaller, detailed jobs and a lot of DIY around the house, then this will give you nearly everything you could possibly need without having to buy it all separately - and with a very nice case to keep it all organized.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does Almost Everything I've been using Dremel products for a long time now, and they have yet to let me down. The tools are durable, the accessories have reasonably long lifetimes, and I really like that they continue to make their rotary tools with replaceable brushes so you can extend their life almost indefinitely. This kit comes with a bunch of great accessories. Lately, I've been using my Dremel mostly for power carving in wood. The accessory grip handle that comes with this kit really makes it a more ergonomic tool to use, and allows me to have a greater degree of control compared to using just the bare tool like I'm used to. Also included are an extension, a right angle adaptor, a guide for using the tool like a router, and a nifty little LED light for working in dark little corners. And a ton of the little attachments like sandpaper and cutoff wheels. My only disappointment with this kit is that it lacks any tungsten bits, so it's not ready to do any metal engraving out of the box (of course you can buy them separately on your own).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Starter Kit and Worthy Upgrade For Anyone Who Needs A Rotary Tool I was really impressed by the Dremel 4300 “Platinum” kit packaging. The tool comes packed in a “deluxe” tool box that includes foam cutouts shaped to store each tool and accessory. The tool box has an upper compartment that stores the Dremel tool, the flex shaft and a couple of other attachments, while a lower drawer contains compartments for the two included accessory cases and the rest of the attachments. The foam cutouts keep everything nicely in place, prevent things from being damaged in transport, and are a great visual indicator when you may have misplaced part of your kit. I also discovered that when the whole kit is closed properly, there’s a latch that slides down inside the back of the toolbox to keep the lower drawer closed. Sadly, there is no way to attach an actual lock to the toolbox. Heck, I guess this just means you need to use your new Dremel to retrofit some sort of padlock hasp. The kit contents are clearly listed on the outside of the product packaging and include: The Dremel 4300 rotary tool, the “deluxe” storage case, 2 accessory cases, 9 attachments (flex shaft, work light, right angle attachment, etc), 64 accessories (an assortment of bits, wheels and barrels for grinding, cutting, or polishing), and an “EZ Twist” nose cap wrench. At first I didn’t understand what the nose cap wrench was really for, but upon closer examination, and reading some of the manual, I realized it is slotted to give you a larger gripping surface to turn the chuck so you don’t require a separate wrench or other tool that can get lost. Additionally, though it’s not specifically listed on the outside of the package, there’s a comprehensive owner’s manual printed in English, French, and Spanish. There are 44-pages of use and safety information in each language about the Dremel 4300 and rotary tools in general. This includes a nice set of tables with recommendations for tool accessories and speeds when working on a variety of materials. There are also two, prominently displayed, toll free phone numbers for USA and Canada for help and advice printed on the box. When I called the US number, the phone was immediately answered by a nice woman who told me their help lines are staffed Monday – Friday from 8AM to 5PM Central. She explained they could help me find and order parts, work on warranty issues, and give advice on how to use the tool properly. I’m a big fan of easy to access help lines, and while this may not have been specific to the Dremel 4300, it sure does add overall value in my opinion. Operation of the 4300 is intuitive and easy to understand. I’ve regularly used similar rotary tools in the past, and the controls on the 4300 were perfectly understandable. I especially like that setting the rotation speed is separate from the on/off switch. My older rotary tool integrated speed control into the on/off switch, which meant I always had to fiddle with it a bit when I first turned it on to get the speed set correctly. If you’re unfamiliar with rotary tools, please be sure to read, and follow, all the safety and operation recommendations in the owner’s manual. Improper use of the tool, or any of the accessories, can very easily result in damage to the tool or serious injury to you! The Dremel tool body is larger in diameter than my older rotary tool. Out of the box the 4300 feels well made, with a good weight, and has a textured housing to make my grip solid, sure and comfortable, even while wearing some work gloves. I feel like it may be just a touch too large for someone with smaller hands but, this can largely be remedied by using the flexible shaft accessory, which has a much smaller grip. While first using the tool, I experienced uncomfortable vibration between 15 and 20 thousand RPM. Above and below this however, the tool operates smoothly. It’s possible this will work itself out over time. The vibration definitely seemed to be less noticeable the more I used my 4300 and the owner’s manual suggests running the tool for at least five minutes with no load to “seat the brushes” properly when it’s new, or any time a brush needs replacing. The work light attachment can be repositioned anywhere around the circumference of the tool axis or easily removed if you feel it is in the way. It runs on batteries and it must be removed to replace the battery or when using other accessories with the 4300. With all the attachments and accessories included in this kit, it was a very worthy upgrade from my old rotary tool, and would make a great kit to give someone who doesn’t already have a rotary tool. If you’re planning on gifting this to someone who doesn’t already have safety glasses/goggles, please don’t forget to include a pair. I can’t tell you how often I’ve been glad of a pair of safety goggles or glasses while working with rotary tools, and I wish they’d included some inexpensive safety glasses in this kit. They are very inexpensive but are essential for the safe operation of any power tool.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Our best Dremel yet This is our third Dremel tool and it is by far the best one yet. This one is exactly as advertised being powerful, quiet, and extremely versatile with the accessories included in the kit. The pivot light is a real nice addition and the flex shaft is a must have for anyone who uses a tool like this a lot like my wife does for her crafting. This one comes very well equiped with the accessories included, and the custom case is absolutely fantastic. Every time we get a newer Dremel tool we seem to find more projects we can use them on, and now I am using them more for some shop work projects including sharpening the yard tools and lawnmower blades which I used to do on a bench grinder. This is much easier, lighter and a more exact and controlled approach to these projects, and the results are outstanding. My wife has already worn out some sanding discs and polishing wheels. This Dremel is definitely the nicest one we have owned yet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great-in-one Dremel tool set My husband has owned a Dremel tool for for many years and has used it on a variety of assorted projects grinding, filing, sanding, cutting and so forth. During that time, he has also purchased some of the accessories made by Dremel but he has never owned all of the tools that come with this package. I have wanted a Dremel of my own for years - to keep in my craft room so I would not need to go to the garage to find his and dig around for the attachment I needed at the time. I was very pleased to get this all-in-one platinum set. Not only does it come with the main Dremel tool and every attachment I can imagine needing, it also comes with a variety of carving, cutting, sanding and other accessories all packaged in a sturdy foam padded tool box. The tool and attachments are in the upper compartment and the various accessories are in a padded drawer that pulls out from the front of the toolbox. This set-up is exactly what I need for my craft room. All the parts are stored conveniently in a tool box that can be put on a shelf in my craft closet and pulled out when I need to use it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Many Accessories, BUT Time Consuming Setup As an avid DIY, I sometimes have one-off types of projects that no other tool helps me address – particularly when they involve very small components. I got this set to help me with those kinds of projects, and having tried some of the accessories provided, I have mixed feelings about how well it helps me to solve my needs. What I like: 1. It provides plenty of power to the accessories; the tool never came to a stop or got hung up or snagged. The on/off slide switch is easy to find with tactile feel, and there is a nice fold-up hanger to use to temporarily hang the tool up with. 2. It has an easily adjustable wheel to select a wide range RPM, perfect for controlling the speeds needed for any application (see picture). 3. The tool box provided is well organized, making it easy to find any of the accessories and bits provided without too much hunting, and the sliding drawer will only open if the box top is also unlocked and opened – meaning there is little chance the drawer will accidentally slide open emptying the multitude of contents on the ground. Smaller items (bits, etc) are enclosed in the drawer, inside separate locking plastic cases, further securing the contents. (see picture) 4. There are a large number of accessories provided, many of which will help with a variety of tasks, specifically: a. A removable flashlight style accessory is attached to the tip that illuminates the work target (I spent several minutes looking for this in the case, not realizing it was pre-attached to the tool). (see picture) b. Several chucks, grinding wheels, cutters, mandrels, adapters, etc. The primary chucks are tool-less, which was a most welcome feature since I hate using wrenches to change fittings. However, after operating some of the fittings, I found it necessary to use a pliers to disengage some fittings from the chuck. c. A nice mandrel that easily mounts/dismounts sanding drums (of which many drums are provided). I used the sanding drums to clean up molding copes for baseboard trim – they were excellent, fast and precise although they don’t wear particularly well. Unfortunately the mandrel doesn’t always hold the sanding drums effectively after they heat up with repeated use. But this is a nice little accessory and certain beats having to manually file a molding trim profile. d. Flexible/remote shaft to access places where the size of the rotary tool head would normally restrict its use. (see picture) e. Variable depth cutting guide, for use with such projects as cutting an opening for an electrical box in drywall. (see picture) f. Right-angle attachment, for use with projects where limited space would preclude approaching the target, head on with the rotary tool, such as inside of a narrow closet door opening. g. Lawn mower & garden tool sharpener, with pre-set angles to hone beveled edges. h. Circle-cutter & straight edge guide, for use in cutting clean circles through materials, such as drywall for the insertion of ceiling fan boxes and top-hat light fixtures. (see picture) What I don’t like: 1. Being someone who like to get to and through a project with efficiency, I don’t like having to spend a lot of time setting up a tool. I like it when accessories snap on, and work immediately. For the most part, that’s NOT how this tool operates; in most instances multiple steps and parts are needed to attach and use an accessory. The assembly process is NOT intuitive, and so unless you’re using this kit on a very regular basis you will need to keep the instruction manual by your side and plan on spending several minutes figuring out which parts you will need and how to attach them to the rotary tool before you can move forward with your project. For people like me, this becomes a bit of a disincentive to using the tool, particularly if there is another tool available that will quickly dispense with my project. But as the saying goes, the right tool makes a project go well, so there are certainly instances where the tool preparation will be worthwhile. 2. The only place where the accessories are identified is in the manual. A nice storage case is provided, but nothing is identified therein. As I mentioned earlier, I needlessly went looking for the light module in the box when it was already pre-attached to the rotary tool. 3. While I suppose a nice big tool box container makes some folks take great pride in their tool collection, for me it’s just another item that I have to find some space to store, and for the most part I shed the boxes and place the tool in my tool cabinet where I know I can find it later. In my opinion, the storage box is way too big – probably fills more of a sales-marketing need than anything else. 4. Chances are better than even that you WILL need the manual to fully use the capabilities offered by this set – some preprinted instructions on the box could alleviate this need, and possible frustration when the instructions are misplaced. 5. Extra care must be taken to secure some of the smaller parts to the rotary tool and mandrels – I had a buffing wheel (see picture) fly off twice until I figured out how to properly do this (I learned by trial and error, as nothing that was mentioned in the manual indicated I should hear a “click” to know the wheel was properly seated.) 6. Some of the small parts (sanding drums, cutting drills & discs), wear rather quickly; fortunately there are several of each provided with the kit. If you use these components on a regular basis, you will definitely need replacements in short order,. Overall, this is a nice set and it is comprehensively stocked with accessories that might help a DIY avoid having to purchase a separate specialty tool to complete a “one-off” type of project (such as buying a hole-cutter for a one-time use in cutting drywall for an electrical box). However, it can be cumbersome to attach some of the accessories, especially if the user manual is not available. I think the kit is a tad overpriced for the average DIY, but if you do a lot of work with smaller parts/projects and crafts, it’s probably a reasonable value.
