Q:Do these Rose Bushes do well in Clay
by|Jun 24, 2020
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  I have various Drift and Knockout roses planted in our clay soil. I did amend the soil a bit with compost when I planted them. The roses do well as long as I remember to spray them with deer and rabbit repellent. Deer tend to eat both kinds, and rabbits eat the smaller roses.

      So beautiful
These roses arrived in perfect condition. Lots of beautiful blooms. The blooms have dropped off, which I expected after the shock of being transferred from the pot into the ground. I’m looking forward to enjoying them when they rebloom.

Blooms profusely in container as well
We bought two of these last year and planted them in containers, they were in bloom at the store and continued to bloom profusely and again its full of blooms this year too in May. They do get slight black spot and little yellowing but not very bad. I did not prune these this year, will be doing every spring starting next year. Pic showing just one plant.

These roses are really poor quality and really small! They look like they are 1/2 gallon size plants that were transplanted into 2 gallon containers just prior to shipping (due to the 2 gallon selling price) and the look nothing like the pictures on Home Depot's website! So, essentially Home Depot charged double what my local nursery does (which unfortunately did not have them in stock) for plants that are about 1/3 the size that my local nursery carries! I need to state that this really is a Home Depot vendor issue (Baucoms Nursery). The order was placed with Home Depot and, their vendor, Baucoms Nursery fulfilled the order. Home Depot did not ship it and never saw it. So, at the end of the day Baucoms Nursery screwed Home Depot and created ill will between Home Depot and me, Home Depot's Customer! Nevertheless, at the end of the day, Home Depot needs to manage their vendor, so the inferior, over-priced product is intrinsically their responsibility. Thank you for sending me an inferior product at a very high price!

This plant is absolutely beautiful! It came shipped in a box with blooms which lasted several days, and after planting, it really took off! I would definitely purchase more of these.

I ordered three of these and they all arrived well packaged and alive. There were several buds on each plant, but none had bloomed yet. I planted them the same day as delivery and so far they are thriving! They all have tons of blooms. I love the color variations. The roses range from the softest pink to a deep coral. They are beautiful.

                Do not recommend
Rose came with block spot diseases Right out of the box. Now I either fight the disease or trash the plant.

When I opened these roses I found a caterpillar inside and a lot of the leaves chewed up on both rose bushes, so I had to return them.
