Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot. Cobalt bits are a special formulation of high speed steel with cobalt added in to withstand very high drilling temperatures. Cobalt bits are specifically designed for drilling very hard, abrasive materials. Cobalt bits are not designed for general purpose use. High Speed Steel bits are standard general purpose bits with a polished finish. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future. -The Home Depot-

I checked the package my bit came in and also the bit its self and the is not a RHC number or level code listed.

Can someone explain to me why the 6" version of this costs twice as much as the 12" version?

This is a drill bit, nothing more, nothing less. It is well made, strong, very hard to bend. I like it because of the length, and I did get a good quality hole in a piece of wood as shown below in the photos. I would like a set of these. I put a block of wood under the piece of wood I drilled so the blowout would not be very bad. I do this all the time for that purpose. Regardless, I ended up with a nice clean hole, ready for sanding.

The longer bit and quality of the workmanship makes this a product I reccomend. I received this item in exchange for a review. I especially like the length of this drill bit, way too often I find myself in a having to drill in a tight spot or awkward angle that needs that slightly longer bit. The bit is made well, edges are clean and the cutting edges are sharp. I have made some test runs with the bit and I am very satisfied with the results. I recommend this product.

This is a high quality extra long drill bit for you can handle variety material, either wood, metal and non-ferrous material. The bit stay sharp for a period of long time before you need to sharp it again. The specific black oxide help as a lubrication for you can drill more smoothly. Of course, if you drill on metal especially for thicker metal better keep oiling to keep cool of the bit and keep it stay sharp longer time. The extra length is quite helpful for you can drill thicker material without any problem. I test it on a piece of pine board vertically almost 4" height, it go through smoothly without smoke generated.

This drill bit is 6" in length. It has a 136° chisel point on it. This equates to 68° per chisel point side. The standard drill point is 118° . I use the 136° when I want to drill close to through some thing but not all the way through it. For me this allows for maximum hole depth. However it can be used like another drill bit. This is also the style drill I use when I'm adding another phone outlet in another room. I'm able to locate and drill the hole after which I push the phone wire through for the new jack. This is just one of a few possible applications for drill bits.

Not a lot can generally be said about a drill bit, it either was able to go through the intended material or it wasn't. With that I can for sure tell you this drill bit has no issues going through your normal MDF or framing dimension lumber. The holes that it made were very clean also and did not leave and marks on the wood. The speed that the bit went through was very impressive also and with little effort needed by me to apply force to assist the bit. I was able to make about 30 holes through about 4 inch material with little difference in performance from the first hole drilled to the last hole drilled. Would definitely recommend this bit.

This bit is strong and solid. For as long as it is I am very satisfied with the stability of the bit. It went through steel like nothing at high speeds and low speeds. It worked great with an existing hole I needed to make bigger and did not catch or bite. I did not feel it drift or have any issue going through anything. I added pictures of the item I made with it. I counter sank the hole and widened it with the 1/8 bit. It worked great. I have needed a strong bit that could go through long blocks of wood and hold the path. This is it.

I love aircraft bits - you don't always use them often, but when you need them, they are a lifesaver. I picked this one up as I need to drill a series of 8 edge to edge holes through about 40 1x4s. I have a few different sizes and they work great for running coax cable through walls without tearing up the wall. These are also handy for drilling holes in tight spaces. I use these mostly in softer material like wood so the 135 degree point starts easily without much tendency to walk. You can get these in longer lengths as well but for my particular project the 6 inch length gives me the best combination of depth and rigidity of the bit.

I always like to start with the negatives. There aren't that many. The first thing that I noticed was that the drill bit upon first use was a little dull going through the surface of the wood even with pressure from myself and the drill. It obviously went through but there was a slow start. After that it goes through with a little more reluctance. But to its defense it makes really clean holes. I think this drill bit would be perfect for drywall, but dry and then going into a wooden frame.

I have purchased and wore out thousands of drill bits over the years and the quality varies wildly between brands. This 1/4" high speed drill bit is very sharp and is also very straight. It appears to be made from very high quality steel. I like the 6 inch length because it allows drilling in crowded areas and also allows the use of guides and templates. Highly recommended.

I have a few Drill America bits and I deem their bits as quality. I needed a longer drill bit to drill through 4x4 timbers and occassionally in larger wood beams for pilot holes for lag screws to allow for easy installation. This bit comes in handy when you need to drill a little longer/deeper than standard bit lengths allow for. Definitely a quality item to add to my drill bit toolbox.
