9/64 in. M35 Cobalt Drill Bit (12-Piece)

Drill America WCO Cobalt Jobber length (standard length) are manufactured to National Aerospace standard 907. This allows greater cutting speeds and less force to start and finish your work. The 135 degree split point is self - centering reducing the need of extra force to get started. These drills come in 1/16 to 9/64 for greater job variety and each pack contains 12 drills. Convenient and time saving. These drills work well with high tensile strength material, stainless steel, Titanium and Inconel. What is Inconel? Inconel is a family of austenitic nickel-chromium-based superalloys. Inconel alloys are oxidation-corrosion-resistant materials well suited for service in extreme environments subjected to pressure and heat. When heated, Inconel forms a thick, stable, passivating oxide layer protecting the surface from further attack. Inconel retains strength over a wide temperature range, attractive for high temperature applications where aluminum and steel would succumb to creep as a result of thermally induced crystal vacancies. Inconel's high temperature strength is developed by solid solution strengthening or precipitation hardening, depending on the alloy. High red hardness Red-hardness is defined as the maximum temperature at which steel retains a given hardness. For example, high-speed steel retains Rockwell C hardness of up to 60 at 620°-650°C. Hard alloys have the highest level of red-hardness (up to 900°C).

The drill bits arrived well packaged and undamaged. This multipack of drill bits come in its own cardboard flip top container. They appear to be high quality items even on first glance. I started with some test drilling. I tried drilling holes in pressure treated wood: no issues. I moved on to some scrap steel pipe: no issues. Lastly, I tried a piece of iron: again no issues. These drill bits are great and held up to the best abuse I could muster. Highly recommend them. Best if all, if one breaks, you'll have many spares to use.

I am using these 1/16 Drill America cobalt bits to drill holes in hardened alloy steel bolts for safety-wiring. So far, they have exceeded my expectations. They cut reasonably quickly, remain sharp longer than I expected, and so far I haven't broken any (!)

This drill set of 12 is a definite step up from the normal bits you buy. These cobalt drill bit displays an unusual hardness and allows you to use speeds much greater than normal drills. The bits work well with stainless steel and titanium. The point is so helpful in self-centering without the need of added thrust. The hex design is excellent for holding the bit in my drills. As with any bits they will dull but not as fast as regular bits. With having 12 you can quickly exchange to the next one. I would highly recommend these bits.
