Does the water bowl and fire grate/ring slide out. Can you just slide them out and refill them and slide them back in?
Asked by: gman
The fire grate slides out for refilling if needed but the water bowl does not. I just fill it with a glass or water bottle. I tried lifting it out once and spilled water putting it back in. Plenty of room to pour some in if you need more.

Please tell me more about this smoker; 1) the grill grates size, 2) space distance between grill grates, 3) can a hole pork shoulder fit, 4) how many whole turkeys will it hold?
Asked by: Coon
The grates are 16 3/8" in diameter. Please view the attached photo for specs pertaining to space between grates. The pork shoulder and turkey question are subjective in regards to size, etc.

I have found if you build a good bed of coals it will last for more than 5 hours before you have to add any more and if you are smoking anything of moderate size you might be able to get it done without adding any more coals. Chicken or smaller items won't need anything else. I prefer using charcoal for my smoking and think the automatic pellet smokers take all of the fun and art out of smoking meat. This is a classic vertical smoker with 3 racks and hooks for smoking sausages giving a wide array of setup choices. The adjustable vents give you plenty of control over the internal temperature for whatever you are doing. The metal is nice and thick so it holds heat well and will last for a long time. I do use the included water bath for a heat buffer over the coals and to keep things moist. I like this so much I find my self planning what I am going to smoke each weekend and making sure I make enough for a few lunches as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very well built. I just got this, and got it assembled. I couldn't believe how well made it was, and how heavy it was. It should last for many, many years. I'm looking forward to smoking some meat on it, but it's raining right now, so I can't. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First Smoker- made it easy Unit came is well packed boxes and putting it together was a breeze. Item is very well constructed in my opinion for the price. The unit is easy to use but temperature is tricky to maintain as it is the charcoal version. This is not a unit issue...just how charcoal works, along with my inexperience. Overall the smoker is very good and smokes things well. It is fairly easy to clean and maintain as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Now we're cookin' This Signature line of products from Dyna-Glo have stepped up the home consumer market as far as quality. This smoker is no exception. The product description on this web site for this product is accurate. It is very simple and easy to assemble and all necessary parts for assembly were included. I really like the results from this smoker and it is simple to operate. The instruction that came with the unit are pretty good and they even include some advice and direction for smoking for the novice. The only thing I did not care for is the grates look to be chrome plated and the unit itself is somewhat of a chore to clean up afterwards. I have included a picture with specifics on the space between the grates, water bowl, etc. I found that at some points during the assembly. a #3 Phillips screwdriver was easier to use than a standard #2. I also had the door latch not aligning correctly but resolved that issue by simply loosening the securing hardware, latching, then re-tightening.

Never have I imagined smoking meats could be so easy or taste so good!!! The instructions for assembly are very easy to follow and is not an all day event. Depending on skills you could spend maybe 30 minutes to an hour at the very most. In a few cases maybe even under 30 minutes. I appreciated as a novice such as myself, they offer some very nice tips. It's simple and actually fun. The unit itself is very strong. You will notice the weight initially when you try to move the unit while still in the shipping carton. There were just two small details in the finish, but nothing to be concerned about. The only thing I would perhaps like to see is a cast iron grate. However, I would never consider that as a reason not to get it. I can't wait to work on my next smoked meal!

I had to seal mine up top, and bottom, then the door leaked, so I had to seal that up too. Now it works great, but I shouldn't have to fix a brand new item to make it work right.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great mid range smoker, with a few frustrations This is an excellent smoker, but it does have a few flaws that detract from a perfect rating. Assembly: Super easy - maybe 30 minutes tops. All the parts are well packaged/protected and shipped inside the smoker belly. They assemble with two wrenches and a phillips head screwdriver. Nothing complex, just insert fastener and screw. Build Quality: Top notch - this is made out of heavy duty thick gauge steel. The box was surprisingly heavy and you'll understand why when you get everything out, there's no thin sheet metal anywhere on this. The finish appears to be a powder coating and looks like it will hold up well to abuse. Features: It has everything you could ask for from a mid-range smoker except for a cover. It has a sausage hook across the top, three shelves, a water bowl, built in thermometer, and a removable ash catcher. Unfortunately, you REALLY need a cover with this unit. Even with the stove pipe closed rain water found it's way inside my unit and will certainly lead to rust if it sits long enough with the leftover ashes. Operation: For a casual smoker this is really simple to operate. Start a charcoal fire in the bottom, add your wood chips (I'm partial to hickory), add your meat, and tinker with the air inlet / stove pipe cover until you get the coals burning at the temperature you want. The water bowl provides a nice heat buffer between the meat and heat, and keeps everything moist. The top shelf is frustratingly high, which makes turning any meat placed up there a real frustrating experience. You have to remove the meat from the top shelf, then re-add it upside down. You'll never be able to reach it with your tongs. Cleanup: Frustrating to say the least. The bottom is sealed, with no drain plug, and the door is raised. If you try to hose out the interior you'll have to lift 80 pounds to dump the water out, or sponge it all back up. The shelves are very difficult to remove or access with a wire brush, which means you miss little bits of food in the cleaning process. The water bowl is almost impossible to remove without taking several shelves out, and gets VERY dirty with fat drippings. Cleanup is probably my biggest frustration with this unit and the main reason I didn't give it a five.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best tasting meat we have had. My family loves this smoker. It is incredible! I haven't had BBQ smoked anything this good. This smoker is a heavy duty well built masterpiece. These things even have there own stamped serial number tag ours is #741. I am surprised and amazed at how good this thing is. I have only two issues that are my fault 1) I over tightened the thermometer so it isn't exactly accurate 2) I wish it sealed around the door a little better only because I don't want to loss any smokey goodness!
