I had the same problem with mine one time after taking the head apart to clean and inspect it and it turned out I had installed the spool backwards. When I flipped the spool back everything worked properly. It's a good idea to mark the spool when removing it so you know which side is out when you put it back in. Great machine! The best one I have ever owned!

Is the guard large enough on this trimmer? It seems kind of skimpy in comparison.

Asked by: TMan
I can't see/feel any difference from my old trimmer with a larger shield. I get hit regardless. That's why we wear PPE.

Can this SRM225 be turned on it's side for edging without harming the unit?

Asked by: shazaman
Absolutely. Two stroke engines can run in any configuration because they are lubricated from the oil that is added to the fuel, rather than a four stroke engine which have an oil sump.

Yesterday I purchased the SRM Trimmer Blade Kit also at Home Depot (Model # 99944200422.) I installed it precisely according to the instructions that came with the kit, and after using it for 20 minutes today on blackberry bushes, the main shaft rod broke Inside the engine cover and the engine fell off and was hanging by the ignition wires. I will attach pictures of the break. I did not hit anything with it, or drop it, or otherwise use it recklessly or abusively, and in fact the new blade kit was almost overkill for what I was cutting, so overload was not an issue. I think either the blade kit is just too much for this unit (although the specs say it was designed for the SRM 225) . Luckily no one was hurt. I really hope the manufacturer honors their warranty on it and I don't have to wait weeks for a repair as I really need to be using it right now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Trimmer ive ever owned I'm not sure why a few people had such problems with this machine. I have a small lawn care business, I have bought plenty of ryobi's, I have 4 to be exact and not one of them is running. Bought my first echo 2 years ago and is now 1 of the 3 I own. These trimmers will be running off and on for 8 hours a day 3-5 days a week, always starts and never any problems. The only problem i do run into is the primer bulbs drying out and cracking but its a .60cent fix. For those that had problems with feeding the line, its actually a quick feed, you shouldn't have to take it apart to feed it. You need to pull out a strand of line 6-8', feed the ends through the holes then start turning the bump feed clockwise and the string should start winding up. Once you get it wound up it should be a loop of string across the head of the trimmer. cut it in half and your ready to do work. Any other problems you may have, resort back to the owners manual, it will tell you all you need to know. thanks

Ive had nothing but problems with all their products. The trimmers Worked amazing. My issue is with the manufactures 5 year warranty, customer service, defective parts that go bad often and have to be special ordered. Echo flat out refuses to honor their warranty. The warranty calls out if there are defects in the product it should be covered. I have repetitively tried to contact Echo on the phone to fix the defects, the 1st time Echo sent me to a service dealer in the are, dealer was rude and basically told me to get lost. Tried contacting Echo and its like they refuse to answer the phone. So I then tried social media and they blocked me. NO reply just blocked. The part on the trimmer goes bad about every 4-6 months and its a special order and I have to keep purchasing a new item. You have to Special order the Grease! The service centers are just garbage in my area. I shouldve just went with stihl!

After using this yesterday... I must say that it is by far, the best weed eater I have ever owned. I've always bought the cheapest I could find and then trashed it when it broke. This time I decided to get a decent machine in hopes that it would help this old man get the work done. Man! This thing is a "BEAST"! It was ready to "rock and roll"! I cleaned up a 200 ft. long creek bed behind our house in 1 hour and 15 minutes. It usually took me about 3 hours before! I only had to bump the line feeder twice and had 1/3 of a tank of gas left. Amazing! The I did the rest of the weed eating in record time as well. If you need a weed eater... this is the ticket! It's also very light and well balanced. Quieter than most too. ECHO model SRM-225, $199.00 at Home Depot. 3,104 reviews with 2,459 being 5 stars! And, I'm about to add another one! I can't believe I'm saying this... but, I actually enjoyed weed eating yesterday, for the first time in my 63 years!!!

After much research online i decided on this unit from Home Depot and will say this is by FAR the best trimmer I have purchased in 35+ years. After trimming approx 1160 Feet x 1 ft wide (paced it off) and 120 ft of 8ft wide ditch I used a little more than half its fuel and bumped the line less than 10 times, plenty of line left. It is very well balanced and does not vibrate your hands off. The trimmer has plenty of power, in my opinion, and is a little quieter than most trimmers. 2 cold starts were used, no problems. Starts very easily when warm. It is not supplied with a strap and the trigger is a little awkward for me. I have only used this trimmer 1 time and sure hope it lasts as long as everyone says it will. I did get the 2 year warranty extension for $25 as I have a terrible track record with trimmers. I average 1 every 2 to 3 years or so. For $224 plus tax I am very happy about this purchase. Hope I'm saying the same thing this time next year. I have not tried restringing it yet.

The first time I used it, took me a half hour of pulling to finally get the thing started. I have never owned a piece of lawn equipment that doesn't start in choke. The way I found to start it is to put it in choke, give it gas. The engine sputters (doesn't start). Then move the lever between choke and run and give it gas. I haven't had a problem starting since, but it still is annoying. The head flew off after the second time using, but it was easy to screw back on. The unit works well after it starts. It hasn't stalled once. I haven't noticed a lot of vibrations while using it and it feels light in the hands. It seems to cut grass well, but doesn't cut that well while I used it to cut into thick edging. The string tends to retract inside the head if you let the length get to less than 1/4 of the full length.

Can't comment on longevity or reliability yet but feel like it should be solid and if not it has a 5 year warranty so what do you have to lose? Don't forget to register your new trimmer online. I've used 2 of the other big brand name orange trimmers over the years and neither compare to this one. If you are tall this is the trimmer for you with the long shaft it means less bending over and easier on your back, plus it's very light weight. I purchased the Echo fuel as well because I'm lazy and it was right there already mixed up in a large can with a twist top lid. This thing fired up with 2 pulls first time. Ran it for about 2 hours on tall east TN weeds today and it ripped right through them. Not sure how much line they stick in it to begin with but I have not even used that up yet. (two hours straight). The handle is comfortable, the vibration is minimal. So stop reading reviews and buy this now. It just flat out works and you wont beat the quality, comfort, and performance for this price. On a side note I went to 5 different stores in the last 2 days trying to find the right trimmer. Home depot was the only place that didn't hound me and try to force a product down my throat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WOW! is the word I choose I've had a Craftsman 32CC trimmer for several years. So, when I looked at this trimmer I had some concerns. One being the displacement size and two the string size. well, after the first 15 mins. of use I was no longer concerned. this product has it right in all areas. I was working all demands, form quarter throttle to full and it never cared. even in heavy grass at half throttle, I could give it full throttle and it went straight to it. Very impressive and pleased. from grazing across the grass to scalping the surface the .095 string was very good. control and feel was very good. the lighter weight allows for a very user friendly control. I ran the first tank of fuel over an hour non-stop until it ran dry (good break in). Idle was good throttle control and response good, Bump head feed never missed a beat. Value for dollar is spot one and then some. I'm "Happy, Happy, Happy" !!! Hope you enjoy the same experience that I have. It has definitely been worth the research. Plus the 5 year Warr. Please...
