Questions & Answers

I just bought new Echo CBL-58v blower and after charging the spare battery 58v-4AH the blower only runs for 2-3 seconds

Is it the blower or the battery?
Asked by: Friggy
I was experiencing the same issue. I called customer support and they stated to hold the battery indicator button down for approximately 10-15 seconds to reset the battery.

CAN I EXCHANGE THE BATTERY AT A HOME DEPOT STORE IF IT IS DEFECTIVE?

5 YEAR WARRANTY
Asked by: MOONSKINS
No. I bought the mower from Home Depot yesterday, put the battery in the charger this afternoon, and it read as defective. I brought the battery to the same Home Depot I purchased the mower from and was told that I needed to contact Echo Customer Service for a replacement or I could return the mower; expected battery delivery time, according to the clerk, is 5-6 business days. (I'm still waffling about whether to return the mower or not.)

why when I tried to charge it reads defective when brand new?

I have tried TWO different chainsaws within a week and both time the batteries would blink defective after the third time I tried to charge it. ECHO customer service was no help he just said "well take it back to Home Depot then" really like I couldn't figure that out myself.

What is the lifespan of this battery?

What is the life cycle of this battery? How many charges can it handle / is it rated for?
Asked by: Mike
Thank you for asking, Mike. The lifespan of this battery could range between 3 to 5 years. This battery has unlimited charges during its lifetime. Great question! Thank you for taking an interest in the ECHO 58-Volt line! I hope this helps! –Keri

Got the run around when trying to return it from Home Depot and ended up having to go through the manufacturer, Echo. Still waiting for a working battery, a month after my initial order.

We have two properties -- in spring 2015 I bought two Echo 58V power-heads with string-trimmer tools. Each came with one battery and a charger. Later that year, I bought a third battery, stand-alone, when Home Depot had them on sale at less than half price. I have been very satisfied with the batteries. They have exceptional power and stamina. On slow (turtle) speed, they provide plenty of power to handle all but the thickest grass or toughest weeds, and will last an hour or more of almost continuous use. However, in thick, high grass, the slow speed can result in long weeds wrapping around the head, requiring a minute to peel them off. On high (rabbit) speed, the trimmer will whack even small woody plants, will still operate for over half an hour, and has much less tendency to get wrapped up in weeds. I'd estimate I use the slow setting 80% of the time – it's quite powerful. When we go to our off-grid property I take all three batteries, and it still amazes me that I can get so much done: edging along 200 feet of the creek (HEAVY grass on wet, uneven ground where can't use a mower), over 600 feet under fence-lines, trimming around cabin, sheds, and three large gardens, cutting a wide fire-break (ALL grass and weeds for 10 to 20 feet) around a 24x40 barn, trimming all around the pump-house and cistern, etc. It does take all three batteries, but I've always been able to finish the job. At our "civilized" home, we have a LOT of cedar fencing, trees, walls, and concrete garden edging, and a boatload of sidewalk & curb edging as well. I can usually finish all the trimming on a single battery. Problems? Yeah, at first I had the common issue with a full battery suddenly quitting. I was about to return the two trimmers when I read about the simple fix someone found by chance: just press the battery-check button. The battery comes back immediately. Occasionally this would happen twice with a full battery, and once it happened three times, but the simple (unofficial) fix always brought the battery back to life. I've read that Echo claims to have solved the problem, and it is not supposed to happen on batteries made since spring of 2015. I'm pretty sure it's never affected my third battery. One other problem, one of the first two batteries became defective recently after 30 months – maybe recharged 40 times...the charger just blinked red: defective. I tried charging it on the other charger, same result. I called the Echo 58V customer service number (877-396-3036). I hadn't registered anything, nor did I keep the receipt, but when I gave them the model and serial numbers of the trimmer (power-head), the charger, and the battery, they verified the manufacturing date and date shipped to Home Depot, and immediately agreed to send me a new battery for free, no shipping or tax -- that is great customer support. With Home Depot now charging $169 + tax, I really appreciated it. Other small cons. The trimmer and battery weigh enough that my wife is unable to use it for more than about 15 minutes. It really is heavy, but only a pound or so more than my last gas trimmer, and I don't begrudge the weight...it's a lot better than fooling around with a temperamental gas engine. Also (...this isn't really a battery problem, but...) the trigger-lever must always be squeezed, which can give you a severe ache in the forearm after an hour or so . The solution? Move the handle so that you are comfortable with your BACK hand directly under the trigger-handle – that way, just holding the trimmer will keep the trigger pulled, without any squeezing needed. Overall, the batteries are very, very good, as are the trimmers. Yes, they are heavy. And yes, you may experience the sudden-death syndrome, but it's easily overcome. I almost gave the battery five stars...it was a judgment call.

Works great for my purpose of keeping all the porches, pool deck, and seating areas clean and free from debris. Simple, light, easy to use and store. No start up procedure or long term storage concerns like this dealing with 2 stroke engines.

The battery that came with it was defected. I mowed and the battery only lasted 10 minutes, I was frustrated and disappointed. I have a very large yard and I definitely need a battery that lasts only 10 minutes.
