How is this mounted to a cement fireplace or drywall?

What are the exact dimensions of this mantel? I assume you can stain it any shade wanted?
In the specifications it says it measures 48 in. wide, 5 in. high, and 8 in. deep. Is that not correct? I’m interested in knowing myself as I would much rather have the 72 inch wide.
