Under load? No way. Drywall pinched between the bracket at the wood framing acts as a gap to reduce fastener strengths (1/2" gap implies about a 50% strength loss). The AWC's TR12 covers the engineering. I hope that inspectors have been rejecting these.
HI Scott,Yes, the large screw attaches the bracket to the wall and into a supporting stud behind the drywall.
Hi Samantha, Thank you for your question! Yes, this comes with one mounting bracket. If you have any other questions or need help, feel free to give our Customer Care Team a call at 678-455-5188 (Monday–Friday, 8am–4pm ET). We’re happy to help!
Hi Joey, Thank you for your question! They can be epoxied but, not welded. These pieces are made from an alloy that will melt before it can be welded. If you need guidance on installation or alternative solutions, feel free to reach out to our customer support team.at 678-455-5188. Thanks!
The lateral strength of that single screw is about 50 pounds. The drywall "gap" of 1/2" between wood framing and the bracket is why the screw's strength is so low.
Hi Wayne, Hello and thanks for asking this question. Our handrail brackets passed downward (200 lbs) and side-pull tests (50 lbs) when they were installed on a completed handrail system assembled according to local building code and best practices. Handrail brackets should be attached to the dry wall, or wall surface, by a center screw drilled through the wall surface and into a wood stud behind the wall. Brackets should be spaced every 3 to 4 feet along the run of the handrail. Since building codes vary widely by jurisdiction, we strongly recommend you consult with your local building authority for applicable codes in your area.
Hi Chris, The distance of the holes is 1 1/2.
Hello Kaye, Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot. This bracket is made of cast metal iron with an Old-World Copper finish. This is a smooth finish, not rough or matte. It is not available in black or a sand-casted finish. Therefore, this may not be the best option if you are looking to exactly match what you ordered last year. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future.
Hi Mounting, We recommend to use concrete anchors if the screws will protrude from the studs.
