Q:Is this fine to drill holes in to use steel cable instead of traditional look?
by|Mar 1, 2024
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Hi Ggmu. These posts have successfully been used with many cable rail systems. The aluminum wall thickness is .093" and it is vitally important that the system used will work with this wall thickness. Thank you for your consideration. Dan H. (EZ Handrail Dev. Team)

Q:Can this be used with the Fibron railings?

    Answer This Question

A:  Hi Ashlee. If the post greater than 2.75" in width it most likely will work the EZ Handrail system. Fiberon makes quality products, so I would venture to say the load codes will be in compliance as long as the correct bracket fasteners for post material

Q:What concrete anchors for narrow (5.5") curb should I order? How deep to drill? The 5 deck panels are to be spaced only 4' apart between posts. What's the Diameter of Pre- drilled Base holes? For minimum spacing, How far apart are these holes?

      Answer This Question

A:  Hi Gloria. Unfortunately, I (Madden Manufacturing - EZ Handrail) cannot endorse installing our EZ Posts on a 5.5" concrete curb. The mounting plate is 5"x5" with the fastener holes located at 4"x4" (OC - on center). This would only allow .75" of edge distance, which is not enough to safeguard against blowouts and would also not achieve fastener embedment strength. With that said, there are two possible non-endorsed scenarios to explore: 1. IF YOU DO NOT NEED TO MEET IBC LOAD REQUIREMENTS OF 200 LBS OF CONCENTRATED OUTWARD PRESSURE AND 50 LBS PER FT. You could attempt 1/4" x 2" or 3" Tapcons with a 3/16" x 4" hole. Tapcons are a sharp masonry fastener and cause the least hole pressure that I am aware of. In addition, I would add Gorilla Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive on the bottom of the plates as well as on the fasteners. In this scenario you could also drill new fastener holes in the aluminum plate at 3" OC to gain more concrete edge distance. Again, I can stress enough this does not meet code. DHall. 2. Have an local weld shop fab C-Style "straddle" bases for the 3x3" EZ Posts. This scenario would meet code if welded properly with 6065 T6 1/4" aluminum plate (very common and is the same as alloy as our EZ Posts). I can offer you the 3x3 square tube in mill (unpainted) if necessary. Email me at suppport@ezhandrail.com to start a dialog. These are always my least favorite answers to write, because we work hard to manufacturer simple solutions, but blown out concrete edges or worse - guardrail/post failure would be far worse. Thank you for your question. Dan H. (EZ Handrail Dev. Team)

A:  I would use epoxy in type and risk concrete "blow-out" with expansion bolts

Q:The information is kind of confusing, because it says that it is 6' and then it also says 38". Please let me know the actual height. I need to buy the right post to connect a 36" railing for my stairs.

          A:  I ordered 38" tall...You can also order 44" tall

          by|May 3, 2020

A:  38" for top-mount over decking suitable for the EZ Handrail 36" sections. They do sell other sizes.

          by|Apr 18, 2019

A:  Hi Ana. I agree 100% that this imposed naming standard is very confusing for this type of product. The answer is this is a 38" tall post and works with all the 36" tall EZ Handrail Kits - (1" baluster, glass baluster and glass panels). Thank you for the great question, I'm sure it will help many in future. Dan H. (EZ Handrail Dev. Team)

Easy To Install If You Have The Right Tools
We installed this to finish a railing down our front steps. We installed this into concrete. the installation is easy if you have the proper tools. A hammer drill with a carbide bit will make drilling the holes in the concrete a breeze. the instructions suggest to mark the holes using the post plate then drill them out. If your drilled holes are slightly off, you will have problems installing the bolts into the concrete as you cannot force the bolt to get tight or you will strip out the hole in the concrete. i found this out the hard way. Here's what i would suggest for installation: 1. mark the holes as stated in the instructions 2. drill the first hole, replace the post and install the first bolt (do not tighten the bolt, just enough to hold the post in place) 3 drill the last 3 holes with the post in place (you'll want ear protection) add the bolts as you go to make sure you have good alignment. 4. remove the bolts and posts and shim as needed to make the post level. i used washers underneath the mounting plate I also cut the end off an old sock and put that on the post to prevent any damage to the paint during the process.

Little more expensive than the other option (wooden 4x4 with sleeve) but definitely worth the extra $ for the ease of install and longevity of it being aluminum.

This white pretty aluminum 38 inch post x 3" X 3" with welded base is being used as a hand rail post for my new step hand railings. I recently purchased the other pieces to attached to the post base for the 3 steps. This new post is very durable and steady. It is used as the base post at the bottom of my out door staircase. My house was built in 1989 with no hand railings for outside steps but now since I got older, I am needing them to get up and down the stairs being safer for me and others. It looks great and very simple to install. The instructions were easy to follow and materials are made well. I have had a fence around my pool made out of the same materials since 1999 and they have lasted so well. This new post and railings have added value to my house as well as adding a safety factor into it. Very easy to install.
