Questions & Answers

Can I use this product over a solid concrete stain like Behr Solid Stain for Concrete? I'm wanting to make a wood floor pattern in an interior room and use this stain to create the wood grain.

Answer This Question

Our Interior Dyes need to penetrate uncoated concrete. They cannot be applied over an existing coating. The Behr Solid Stain is a coating that would not allow the dye to soak in.

I would like to make concrete planters for use outdoors. Can I mix this product into the wet concrete? What will happen over time if this (indoor) stain is used outdoors? Thank you.

    Answer This Question

The Interior Dye is not UV stable and will fade away in direct sunlight. It also should not be used to color concrete as an admixture. It would take a tremendous amount to change the color of the concrete. you are looking for what is called and integral color for concrete. they are generally in the powder form. We do not make these types of products.

How would I apply this to a concrete floor that has been painted? do I need to remove the paint first?

      Answer This Question

The Interior Dyes cannot be applied over a painted floor. The dyes need to soak into the concrete, a coating would block their ability to do so. The paint would need to be removed before application.

Wanting to apply to fireplace hearth. Does it have to be sprayed? Can it be painted on instead?

        Answer This Question

You can brush it on instead of spraying. It would not be a very efficient way to apply the dye to floors but in your application, that would not be an issue.

I sprayed my floors but used a brush to apply the stain near the base with no noticeable brush strokes. Still probably best to test a small inconspicuous area.

The Dye is specifically formulated for concrete and is not recommended on natural stone.

I have an older house with a never treated concrete floor that has accumulated it's share of stains. Can I just stain the concrete with this? Is it absolutely necessary to seal & polish?

                Answer This Question

You can stain the concrete with this but you should definitely seal it afterwards. The surface should also be clean of any oils or dirt because it will not penetrate the floor properly. If you're looking to cover the existing stains, I'd recommend a solid epoxy type paint designed for garage floors. It will cover the stains and hold up better if you're parking a car on the finished floor.

The spec sheet says 200 sq ft per bottle. One of the reviews said 1200 sq ft, 2 coats, 4 bottles. That's 600 sq ft coverage per bottle. What is the max dilution ratio?

                Answer This Question

I did about 400sf with 3/4 of the bottle. I left a little extra if I needed to do some touch up. I could see doing 600sf with one full bottle. Dilution ratio I used was 4 to 1.

This product should be poured into a one gallon spray bottle and then the rest of the bottle is filled with water.

                  Beautiful Floors!
I was looking for an affordable flooring option to remove the carpets in my home. Decided on this Eagle Coco Stain and Polish as also a healthy flooring. Turned out beautiful! I absolutely love the floors. Lots of prep work, definitely worth it in the end. I'll post pictures. Purchased the red as well as was doing three bedrooms. Did one Coco, one Coco and Red, and one just red. Beautiful variety! Couldn't be happier even six months later, floors are wonderful!!!

We wanted the chemical stain look in our basement but didn't want to deal with the chemicals. I should mention that we prepped our floor first by renting a grinder to polish the floor and even things up. That step made the concrete very smooth and ready to accept the dye. After reading several reviews we decided to use this Eagle concrete dye and it worked beautifully! I mixed the roasted pepper color with the cola color to get a beautiful mahogany color on the floor. I bought a total of four bottles, two of each color, and mixed them in a two gallon sprayer. I was able to spray over my 1000 square feet twice. I also bought five gallons of the sealer and it worked perfectly in the sprayer. I was able to get two coats with some left over and I bought one gallon of the wax and was able to get three thin coats. Overall I'm VERY pleased with the ease of use of the products and how beautiful everything turned out. I highly recommend the Eagle products. I hope the rest of our basement finishing project goes as well as the floor did.

It's pretty much like all of the other review say. The demo and prep is no joke. Using the product is a breeze. I did a random circular pattern similar to the Eagle dye video found on youtube and it turned out so great. I used the HDX sprayer you find in lawn and garden area of home depot to apply the product using the same mix ratio labeled on the bottle (1 bottle to 1 gal of water).

                        Fantastic results!
I used the Eagle system to prep and stain my old, previously painted (and frequently flooded) basement floor. I can't rave about it enough. While the pre-work to get the old concrete stripped and into a dye-ready state was extensive, the actual application of the Eagle etcher, dye, sealer and polish was simple and produced an amazing result. My floor looks fantastic! The dye absorbed quickly, the sealant worked great and the polish gave it a professional finished look. Even better - there was very little odor or fumes with all of the products, unlike a traditional acid etcher or stain. It was great for such an enclosed area. I honestly wish I had more concrete in my house. I want to do more rooms!!

So simple and love the results
I'm currently still doing my basement floors, but so far have done 2 rooms with it. I've done a bathroom, and smaller bedroom floor and still have about 1/2 sprayer full of dye to use yet. I purchased 3 bottles for my entire basement about 1600 sq ft. I think I will have extra for sure leftover. This is a 3year old home with concrete floors that had nothing done to them, I broom swept floors, mopped them and then waited for them to dry, applied 1 coat of the spray then waited for that to dry before applying a 2nd coats, and repeated for a 3rd. I'm very pleased with the results so far, can't wait to finish the next few rooms. Used the eagle concrete polish to seal them. If you use that, do it with a roller instead of a brush, using a brush left brush marks.

I am giving this a 3 star because it did not turn out like i thought it would. I have an unfinished basement floor, i cleaned with etch and clean and applied this 2 days later. The color was very light. Although it worked very well, I will now have to get a 3rd bottle in order to get the color i was hoping for. Not a bad product, just need more than what it calls for. A little disappointed.

Dear Valued Home Depot Customer, "The floor will be much darker after sealer is applied. Observe the appearance of floor while wet and that will be similar, if not quite dark, as floor will look after sealing. You can always apply more dye to darken but if too dark, you can never lighten.

Gave similar finished look as acid stain and a lot less steps. It definitely needs a clean surface and applies well with a pump sprayer. It lightened up quite a bit after sealing and polishing.
