The Home Depot ad shows using an electric paint sprayer - certainly would be faster. But the installation guide says Eagle acid resistant pump up sprayer ?? Can a Wagner type power sprayer be used with acid?
Asked by: Mike
Inexpensive garden sprayer has only plastic parts and won't react with metal.

Can I leave this stain on overnight for an interior application or is that too long?

Asked by: KH
Yes you can. It recommends at least 6 hours drying time. The only difference I think I had was it was a little more cleaning to make sure residue was all up.

After neutralizing stained garage floor can it be rinse down driveway or will it also stain that concrete?
Asked by: PDB
PDB, After you neutralize it you are good to go. Just make sure you use the right mixture of neutralizing agent. Once you get the color you want we applied two coats don't forget to seal it. You can take some of the color out by repetitive washing without sealing.

Do you have to let concrete dry after using Etch and Clean prior to applying Acid Stain ?
Asked by: Shawn
NO...the concrete should be damp prior to application. Make sure the concrete is completely clean. Then, dampen the surface with clean water from a garden sprayer. Do not over saturate it. If the concrete was poured recently, make sure it has cured at least two weeks. This is a very simple process that produces amazing results. Ken

Eagle 1 gal. Rustic Interior/Exterior Concrete Acid Stain is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 126.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Color. Similar to distressed leather Great Product. Came out perfect. Easy to apply. Used sprayer to apply in sections. Used a small bristle brush to ensure even coverage. Number One rule in acid staining, mop, mop, and mop more!!!! Until you water is clear. If this step is skipped in any way the sealer will not adhere. After stain was dry I brush with a broom to remove surface residue to reduce number of times mopped. Mop water clean and dont for get corners and doorjambs. Great Product. 6 gallons covered my 2336 sq. ft. house easily will smooth trowled concrete. Remember to mop until mop water is CLEAN. Stain is tedious but well worth the effort. If you run your hand on floor and residue is on fingers mop again. When stain dries don't worry about that color. Mine was BURNT ORANGE. If you have any doubt pour small amount of water on floor, whatever color it is when it is wet is what color it will be when sealer is applied. Good Luck and do it right the first time.......

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK results. Tried this for a second time because I like the color it produced on my concrete. I had an ok experience with it on an indoor floor but have seen some scratches and peeling. I used a concrete etch the first time and suspect I did not get it clean enough for the stain to penetrate all the way. I decided to try it again on an outside deck but not using the etch this time, just a cleaner/ degreaser. I added water to the mix 2:1 and wet the concrete before application. Although the stain did penetrate the concrete I still had large amounts of stain dust come off the concrete after the neutralization step. After reading about what could have caused my problems this time I am convince I should not have diluted the stain with water and may have had the concrete too wet at application. Would buy this product for a third time which might be the charm. Only from my experience, I would not use any water and try it as straight stain. Hope this helps someone not to make the same mistakes I made.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Product After watching few videos on how to stain (it looks so easy ) i bought this product. First its not all that easy as it sounds and looks. You will need a lot of time cause takes time to prep etch dry neutralize wash off dry again betwen coats etc... Product does do the job. You will need 2 gallons for 400sqft garage. In HD store they sold me Muriatric acid for etching saying that i need this before i stain ( while i was waiting order to come in mail i cleaned and etch with acid , next day order came on and first thing it said DO NOT USE ACID TO ETCH) Went to store with instructions to ask them why they said Acid etch is must. Wanted to be sure that i didnt screw something up(and i did). The guy who sold me the Acid made excuse that he ment for Behr stainer you need to use Acid :(. Its to late now. It did good job but would be much better if i didnt kill all crystals in concrete with Acid etching process. For first coat dont soak it wet it takes forever to clean neutralize. Lost of Amonnia water and washing off. It came out pretty cool. Im happy over all. Just wish i didnt used that Acid to etch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Results! We have 30 year old concrete walks driveway and patio. They look like new now! Several cracks and some raised toe stub edges existed at expansion joints. Raised edges were ground down. I disguised the edges and cracks with darker stain of COCOA color solution. (see below) Masking house stucco and walls to be the hardest chore. Spraying the stain was fun and easy. Waiting for it to react takes patience. Most of ours reacted within 4 hours in 80 degree temperature. I found baking soda solution stopped the reaction better than ammonia. With ammonia it continued to darken somewhat even though it was a strong solution. Started by using a home grade pressure washer. Found using TSP was unnecessary. Wife likes the darker colored areas. That is the COCOA color solution. I added more COCOA in a random fashion here and there. The main areas are RUSTIC diluted 2:1 and 1:1.(for blending and interest) COCOA was diluted with 2 parts water and 1 part RUSTIC. Otherwise, it turned out black instead of chocolate. We liked it so much we went on to do every bit of concrete. The garage is next and last.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks amazing! Just did a new construction interior project. Prep is key, and have realistic expectations or none at all. The floors were spotless and dry. I mixed the acid half and half with distilled water, as I was going for a little more subtle color. I hosed the floor down- this would be hard to do in an existing, finished space, but a pump sprayer might work- before using a pump sprayer to spray it all over. I actually left it on overnight, because I was super exhausted, and then I hosed it off the next morning and mopped with a 1:4 ammonia solution and a microfiber dust mop- the kind with the “fingers,” not the smooth kind. Then I hosed it again and squeegeed it. You do have to mop and rinse before walking on it or it will have footprints everywhere! Then I let it dry overnight. It left the most amazing swirls and splotches- it looks like granite almost. We topped it with a solvent based sealer. The minerals will smudge and get messed up until it’s sealed, so be super careful walking on it until then ( I can’t stress this enough- we were hop scotching in our socks!), but I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out! Unless you want a more solid color, you don’t need as much as it says; I used about half of what I bought and will return the rest. I want to attach a photo but don’t see how on here.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Rustic and Wheat acid stains Brand new house slab kept immaculate, porous and clean as needed with nothing inside but the studded walls and I did all work by my self controlling what happened on that slab completely. Applied 1:1 distilled water with Wheat, Rustic and Aqua Blue. I ph tested the stains to confirm acid strength. The blue bonded where applied and the Rustic and Wheat look almost identical when dry or wet and both wash right off. Shop vac squeegee left color scratch marks and the mop if you moved it around to much would pull the color right off down the to slab. No way to rinse until the water is clean with out removing the Rustic and Wheat completely. With ithe the slab dry you can take a finger and move the color around as a fine powder. Now I have a mess and wondered if I should have used a better grade of stain and paid more. I have blotchy patches and color mars/scratches I don't know what to do with and the good weather is fastly moving on before winter. Everyone needs to test other brands before moving forward!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great results, more work than expected. I couldn't be happier with my driveway, but I worked very hard to get it that way. I ordered the rustic brown, and diluted it 1:1 with water to achieve the color you see in the picture. I pressure washed and cleaned the concrete with the degreaser before hand. Sprayed the stain (2 gallons diluted to make 4), then let it dry. The hardest part was the washing and neutralizing after this. It took maybe an hour to stain the entire driveway, and about 6 to clean it up. After applying the gloss coats the driveway looks amazing and I get compliments on it every day. Over estimate the amount you need as I barely finished the job while over estimating.

We still really never did fully understand why but half of our slab did not take the stain as well as other part. After putting sealer on, it looked much better but u can still tell.
