It's not the plastic, it's the huge metal drill bit that's the bulk of the cost. This kit is worth every penny! I have 2 barrels daisy chained using this kit and both barrels are full most of the summer.
I did, last winter I undid everything, emptied out the barrels and stored the barrels upside down and the connectors in the shed. I have barrels that have kids, so it was easy. I reconnected everything this spring with no issue.
My barrels sit side by side mount a little higher in second barrel my barrels are round. Have had no leak in linking. Read direction
The Linking kit connects 2 barrels together to increase water storage capacity, it includes a linking hose and seals (no valve). If you need to add a valve or outlet to dispense water from a barrel, we offer an Add-A-Spigot kit that includes a drill bit, seal and high flow ball valve. This kit can be used with any plastic barrel or drum. Our DIY Rain barrel kit includes all the Valve, hose and downspout connector. Regards, the EarthMinded Team
It should work, but the hose is only 31", you may want to consider our Rain barrel overflow hose kit, it has a 5' long hose. If the accordion hose included doesn't fit your sump pump, you may need and adaptor or you can hard pipe the connections with 1' schedule 40 PVC. it has a 1.25 in outside diameter that will fit snug into the rubber hose seal included in the kit. 1-1/2" diameter hole, a hole saw is included all you need is a drill. Regards, the EarthMinded team
Users can either link from the top (as our linking kit does) or some have designed a linking at the bottom using other hardware. Our linking kit should have all the parts needed to link two Rainstations at the top. Linking from the top, the second barrel will begin collecting water once the first barrel is filled. Linking from the bottom will fill both barrels one water has reaching the point of linking. Hope this helps.
The easiest connection would be a short length of garden hose with female hose connectors on both ends. A washing machine hose will also work, but keep in mind this will link the barrels but you will not be able to use the drains to access water! EarthMinded has a new item that should be available in 1-2 weeks (mid-March 2016); a bottom linking kit. It includes the hose and a high flow "Y" valve which replaces one of the bottom drains so you can attache a hose and drain both barrel at once. Regards, the EarthMinded team
