Questions & Answers

Why is this so expensive for a little plastic tube snd connectors??

Asked by: Dickey
It's not the plastic, it's the huge metal drill bit that's the bulk of the cost. This kit is worth every penny! I have 2 barrels daisy chained using this kit and both barrels are full most of the summer.

I live in the Chicago area, my barrels would have to be disconnected from each other for storage in the winter. Would I be able to disconnect this product without damage and then reconnect again in the spring?
Asked by: SuzieSunshine
I did, last winter I undid everything, emptied out the barrels and stored the barrels upside down and the connectors in the shed. I have barrels that have kids, so it was easy. I reconnected everything this spring with no issue.

Is this the kit that connects the valve to the rainbarrel? if not what is the correct product?

Asked by: JCW
The Linking kit connects 2 barrels together to increase water storage capacity, it includes a linking hose and seals (no valve). If you need to add a valve or outlet to dispense water from a barrel, we offer an Add-A-Spigot kit that includes a drill bit, seal and high flow ball valve. This kit can be used with any plastic barrel or drum. Our DIY Rain barrel kit includes all the Valve, hose and downspout connector. Regards, the EarthMinded Team

where do you connect it?

I assume it must link the barrels by connecting in the back of them since that is the only place that is flat to get a proper seal. I would prefer linking them from the front but it is curved.
Asked by: restorer
My barrels sit side by side mount a little higher in second barrel my barrels are round. Have had no leak in linking. Read direction

Customer Reviews

Rain Barrel Linking Kit is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 31.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from does the job I was linking two barrels with this kit. They direct you to link them at the top, probably because the rubber grommets and linking pipe aren't threaded or particularly tight. If you link them at the top, you loose all advantage of linking them and will need two spigots to be able to empty both barrels (I had only gotten one barrel diverter kit--and buying two would have given me lots of extra parts). I linked them at the bottom (risking a drip which would drain both barrels). I did smear some silicone caulk on both sides of the grommets. So far so good (2 weeks with 2 full barrels). Next time I might just get two spigots and "Y" diverter to screw onto the spigot on one barrel and link them with a short piece of hose.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect small rain barrel Because of space limitations, it was difficult to find barrels that fit under the deck of our house. This barrel was just the right size while still holding 50 gals. We connected 3 of them to the downspout easily with the additional kit. I am more than pleased and will probably buy a couple more before the rains begin.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Expensive but it works to link two rain barrels. ... Expensive but it works to link two rain barrels. When assembling, put a little lubricant on the gasket and the hose attaches much easier, particularly on the second barrel. It would be good if they sold a kit without the drill bit if you want to link another barrel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great product! This kit was used as it is designed: to link two barrels. This went very smoothly, installation is easy, and we love the final result!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Watertight fit I have joined to standard garbage cans together using this kit. As I also installed a spigot for my hose I installed the linking kit at half way down the cans. No leaks. And now I have 1-1/2 x 70 L of rain water available .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product, great price! This companion kit to the rain barrel kit made it easy to link two rain barrels together. I've been able to build a multi-barrel system using these parts, it was very easy and it works great. Saves a lot of money too-I don't need to use city water (very expensive- we get charged separately for water and sewer by the state, and now the city is billing us for water too-3 payments for the same utility!) to keep my garden growing. Thanks!
