Yes, the trimmer head can be adjusted to different angles. It has a 6-position adjustable trimming head that can be set from -20 to 60 degrees, allowing for versatility in trimming different areas of your hedges and shrubs.
Yes, it is disabled with the pole attached. Without the pole, there are 2 safety switches, you have to hold the green bar to the handle, press a button on the side, and pull the trigger to operate, meaning you have to hold the trimmer with 2 hands at all times, so trying to reach out a few feet while holding the trimmer with one hand is impossible, unless you defeat the green bar mechanism, which is fairly easily done. Also, with the pole attached, this thing is top-heavy, more so when it is extended. I highly recommend not using a ladder while using this with the pole attached, I've come very close to falling off due to the weight. Overall, I really like the versatility, but wish they would find a way to put more weight in the handle side and less on the trimmer side, sort of like the ryobi expand-it concept, where the motor is on the handle side and a flexible shaft runs inside to drive the accessory.
