Do not honor warranty
We have gone through 2 units in 5 years! It starts to leak! They said it was from being frozen! Hard to freeze when it's inside the house. Then they said it's because we needed a backflow preventer! Installed that when we installed the heater! We will never purchase another product from this company! We purchased the extended warranty from Home Depot and they explained "they were not to have sold the warranty with this unit" and refused to honor it too! Offered our money back on the warranty.

We are sorry that your water heater experience has fallen short of your expectations. Cold air could still enter the water heater through the vents. Freeze damage commonly occurs as a split on the pipes that run across the heat exchanger, or at the elbows of these pipes, as well as inside of the gas water valve assembly. The best way to protect your tankless water heater from freezing is to completely drain the water using the drain plug and unhooking the incoming and outgoing water line. You may also want to use an air compressor to blow air directly through the inlet or outlet connection to get rid of any remaining water completely. We apologize for the inconvenience that your experience has caused you. Nevertheless, we appreciate the time you have taken to write an honest review. We hope that we might have the opportunity in the future to restore your confidence in our products and service. ~Eccotemp Systems. Eccotemp

I have been thinking about going Tankless for a couple of years. When my water heater finally broke I ordered this on. It is in my mobile home and it works good. This works for small homes, mine is 650 square feet and 1 bathroom. I have continuous hot water.

Bought this unit 9/22/15 its now 1/7/17. It was minus 15 degrees this morning outside and +70 inside the room the unit was installed, the cold air came down through the exhaust vent and froze the upper coils and split them, flooding occured, no warranty on unit through Home depot because I didnt use a Home Depot credit card. Now I have to try to find my warranty and try to contact the manufacturer. Very disappointed with Home Depot. I've spent $10-20k with home depot over the last couple years. To be treated like this is infuriating. To warranty a product does not just protect the product it protects the company who sells the product from losing valuable business. ARE YOU TAKING NOTE HOME DEPOT!!!!!!!

Simple Design works great for small Cabins/ Tiny houses.
Ordered this for my Small Cabin/Tiny House. (300SF) The stainless venting pipe is great for keeping out the moisture and combustion gases from your small space. When I ordered this unit I thought I had chose a LPG (Propane) model rather than the NG (Natural Gas) that arrived. My mistake! After an internet search on Eccotemp to find that the LPG model was on back order until march 2016 (eek!) I decided to purchase the LPG gas/water valve for the unit. The LPG and NG models are nearly identical. They use the same water temp sensor (even though the website says there is a LPG and NG version. Same part number) of 131F. The only difference is the gas valves as LPG is higher pressure and needs different jets. It cost $30 for the new valve. Pretty easy to switch out for a moderate DIYer. 4 screws on the outer case. 4 screws inside that holds the valve to the case. Unscrew the water line from the heat exchanger. Another 4 screws that holds in the gas manifold. You reuse the same manifold on the new gas valve. The manifold is held onto the gas valve by two screws and has a rubber o ring inside to make a secure seal. Voila! Might be out an additional $30 bucks (I could probably sell the brand new NG valve on ebay to recoup something) but did not have to wait til march/may! When adjusting the water heater to kick on with Flow and temperature. The manual states to turn the gas knob all the way to minimum. The water temp knob all the way to max. With a 2 GPM (temporary until I get a 1 GPM unit) shower head that works well. It put out high 90s to 100F. To increase it to 110F I had to turn the gas knob slightly up from min and watch the digital display settle on my chosen temperature.

      Hot water only
This new unit is the wrong size for the house (seller choice) and turns out to be a 'hot water only' unit, meaning if you are unable to regulate temperature on unit (my experience) you get scorching water (in excess of 150°). You cannot mix in cold water.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. We appreciate all your feedback and any chance to help improve our customer experience. We hate that you are not 100% satisfied and wanted to take a moment to answer your inquiries.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Our FVI12 is a pressure-activated heater. Mixing hot and cold water may affect the water pressure going into the heater. When the water pressure drops below the activation point, the heater will most likely shut down. It is advised to always start with minimum gas and maximum water pressure. Once the heater comes on, then stay at max water, then slowly turn the gas up until you find your preferred temperature. For further assistance, it is best to contact our technical support team to help you assess and fix your heater. Please just go to our main website then find the Helpdesk where you will see 3 options to make contact. If you are to send an email, please include your proof of purchase, serial number, and a photo of your setup so our tech can visualize your installation for proper assessment.

Works very well install was pretty straight forward. Works perfectly off a 20lb propane tank. I have only had it in for a few weeks but so far no complaints, other than dialing in the gas flow and water temp dials can be a little hit or miss. Does exactly what it is supposed to do!
