Good Product - Warranty Process Is Very Challenging
My builder purchased this as we were building our home, 4,100 SQ/ft. It performs fine, but with the 6 Gallon output really doesn't facilitate a home with 4 or more bathrooms. However as long as you're not running more than two tubs at one time you should be fine. This unit performed fine for three years and then began to have problems. Ensure that you register it because I did not initially but did later when having the problems. However, the company accepted the registration. After having problems, I called the company for assistance. I began to troubleshoot the water heater and tech support sent me a recommended troubleshooting guide. It was pretty intense and even requires a multiclamp volt-meter. Going through the steps is not for the faint of heart. It included removing the cover and testing electrical parts. Troubleshooting also includes take apart parts of the hot water heater. If you're mechanically inclined you should be able to handle it, but the steps were truly not expected. At the end of the day, I called a plumbing company to assist me. However, it seemed as though every test required another test, then another test. Talking to the company, the initial tech you talk to seems to be reading a script and troubleshooting based on such. Then if things get worse you will be escalated to teir-2 support. The company does honor the "parts warranty" and my situation was a bad controller board that the company shipped the same day. It took myself and the plumber about 2 1/2 hours to get to that point. Tech support "suggested" that we run test and call back!!! It wasn't until we got to 2nd teir assistance that a tech is willing to stay on the phone. Also, I hope you don't have problems over the weekend because the company is only open 8-5 M-F. And my problem occurred Friday before Memorial day weekend. Like I said, it worked for 3 years solid, no problem. Only downside during that 3 year period is if you have an power outage, once the power is restored you have to remember to turn on the water heater --- and you'd better remember that before you get into the shower. It's a good product, but if I had to do it all over again, I'd get a propane or Gas hotwater heater. Those can serve a bigger capacitity 9 - 10 Gallons which means more people can take showers/baths at the same time. For a smaller home, this would probably suffice. It has a sleek look and looks nice enough to brag to your friend about. But if you're over 3,000 SQ, you might want to reconsider another unit or having two.

This is a good product. I am pleased with the performance. I secured an electrician and used the Home Depot installation option, which a plumber was provided. I did consider doing it myself except that would have ruined my warranty option. In my case I needed to get a permit for both the electrical work and the plumbing work, separately. I obtained the permits myself through our city. It was much cheaper than having the contractors obtain them. Since I was considering doing it myself, I purchased a lot of the materials (wiring, etc.). Overall I did the right thing by having the contractors do the work. I watched them and realized they did it much faster and better than I would have done. The electrical person cut two holes in my drywall to run the wiring through. I later sealed them. The entire work was done over a weekend (electrical was done on a Saturday and the plumbing was done on a Sunday). Both could have been done on the Saturday. The plumbing contractor came by and noticed pipes from the AC. We wanted to be safe and check with the AC company. They came out later and said all was good. So the plumber came back the next day. The plumber took the old water tank with him. The inspector came on Monday. We had this installed in December 2016 just before Christmas. We had visitors over the holidays and no one complained about lack of hot water. However, I do not think we had all four showers going at one. Maybe three.

The unit was fairly simple to install as I had an electrician and a plumber do most of the hookup. Heats water very well but if someone turns on the dishwasher it turns cold until it quits using hot water. Not sure what to do about it.

I have purchased 4 different models of ecosmart water heaters. If you think a small version will work for you, you are wrong. Get the largest one that you can handle. Also keep in mind that the cost of the heater is just part of the equation. You need to purchase 4 runs of heavy [expensive] wire and 4 double circuit breakers. Make sure that you have room in your electrical panel for these.

So far so good. Warms water faster than the Rheem unit. We have a 4 and a half bath home. But here in Ohio the real test will be late fall and winter. Since we upgraded to 400 amp service (Twin 200 amp panels) I added 3 eco boost point of use units tapped to the half inch hot water lines directed to 3 of the bathrooms.

It’s expensive but worth it. Better than any old outdated tank style. Thanks for the new invention. Hope for better advertising so people can try it.
