Item is not the same as picture
I was unable to use this drain because it was not what was pictured online. I am disappointed as I had to order and wait a couple of days only to receive something that I can’t use and will now have to return and re-order. The depth of the drain is too long for my sink, while the drain that is pictured online and associated with the part number would have been the perfect fit.

This ELKAY STAINLESS STEEL DRAIN FITTING, SILVER is super easy to install, the instructions are easy to follow, even just by looking at the pictures. I like the quality and finish of the product as well. The product fit perfectly in my farm sink. I love hot it has the catch option and that I can remove it to throw away the access food that is in the sink after washing the dishes. I would recommend this product if someone is looking for a new drain fitter, this one is perfect.

Ball bearing for stopper is lost and can't find replacement strainer basket.
Within a year ball bearing on strainer was lost and stopper only closes. Unfortunately the strainer basket replacement is not sold separately. If it was made available I would have simply bought another one.

This strainer is a great top end replacement, or perfect for new sink installations. All of the parts are made from very high quality materials. The fittings are all brass construction unlike some of the competition that uses steel fittings. Additionally the body is made from stainless steel, not chrome plated steel which can eventually rust. Installation is quick and very strait forward. This strainer is built to last a lifetime.

Easy install with no leaks. After two weeks of steady use it still performs fine with no drop in the water level.
I installed this drain into a fireclay sink and did have a slight problem that would not have occurred with a normal stainless sink. The fireclay sink is over 1/2 thick, so that I barely had enough threads left to attach the tailpiece. It did fit though. The sink is also made by Elkay and is great.
The way this drain installs is much simpler and easier than most traditional drains with a large lock nut. All you need is some plumbers putty, 12 inch groove joint pliers, and possibly a hack saw if you need to shorten the tailpiece. I choose to use a plastic tailpiece I already had just because it was easier to cut.
I particularly like the retention ball---no more swirling water knocking the stopper back down when you are trying to drain the sink.

This review is on the Elkay Stainless Steel Drain Fitting. I finally got around to switching out my extremely old and extremely heavy porcelain sink to a more modern stainless steel sink (which was the last piece in converting my kitchen to stainless). I decided to use the Elkay stainless steel drain to complete the install. The drain is made of a high quality 304 stainless and fits a standard 3-1/2" opening. It's a polished stainless with a polished strainer basket. The basket seats perfectly in the drain and looks really nice. The entire unit is made of metal (including the locking nut) which is impressive especially these days when everything seems to be made out of plastic. The install is a breeze - no leaks. I like using plumbers putty or a little silicone to ensure no leaks but that's up to you.

I installed this Elkay Stainless Steel Drain on my Apron Front Stainless Steel Sink. The swap out from the old drain took about 30 minutes. I like this drain's appearance but I also like that everything is metal construction. I did not receive any instructions with the drain but having done this before, it was not an issue. This new drain looks good and does not have any leaks.

Don't do as I did, install this drain kit - the difference between the Elkay drain and builder quality is astounding! Two years ago I installed an Elkay granite composite sink. It' black and a perfect compliment to my contemporary black and white kitchen - I love it. Problem was the contractor without saying anything to me installed a builder grade drain and strainer. I looked great for a while but after two years of use and cleaning the "stainless steel" finish on the top of the strainer spindle was wearing off exposing a "brass" mystery metal. Also the drain lip has dulled and slightly discolored. I picked up the Elkay drain and installed myself which was easy and required cutting off some of the PVC drain connection for length. The instructions were clear and easy to follow - you won't have leaks. Now my sink and drain look beautiful. The quality of this Elkay drain speaks for itself. All pieces are stainless steel, brass or resin - all well made. I like how the strainer fits into the drain, you can feel it seat itself and easily locks closed and opens when YOU want it to. The builder grade strainer would turn and lock itself closed with just running water which was a real pain. Who would have thought the difference in kitchen sink drains to be as vast - believe me there is no comparison in quality and function. So if you think you're saving a couple bucks just know that you're not in the long run. The Elkay drain is several levels above builder grade. So don't do what I did and leave the drain selection to the installer!
