excellent pet door, but quite painful to install. The small size was the right width for our 11 pound havanese, and even a bit taller than it needed to be. The door comes in several pieces packaged neatly in a small box. Included are some very brief instructions and a paper template to mark holes. I followed the instructions (and watched the videos they suggest) and positioned the door about 3 inches off the floor for our Havanese. This meant I had to trim about an inch off the molding, but so be it... Was about to cut a hole in the wall, so subtle was out the door already. I used this as to create doggy access to an extra room that we sometimes keep locked. It was all inside my house, so weather tightness didn't matter. They do make a double flap version that would seem to be more air-tight if you were going to install it on an exterior wall, especially in a warm or cold climate. The single flap seals fairly well, and comes with a plastic cover that can be used to seal/lock the door when you don't want critters passing through it. Cutting the hole to size worked fine. I used the paper template the mark the corners, then drew straight lines using a level and a pencil. Cut along the lines using an oscillating multi-tool - piece of cake. The next step was by far the slowest and most painful. The aluminum sheet metal pieces that line the wall cavity are made large enough to fit an 8" thick wall. I was working with a typical 2"x4" wall (4.-9/16" with studs and two layers of 1/2" wall board). The instructions call for you to cut the sheet metal to size (1/4" narrower than the wall thickness) and suggest using a jig saw. I had a jig saw with a 36 tpi metal cutting blade, but cutting thin sheet metal with a jig saw is a noisy business. I clamped each piece to a saw horse while cutting, and it still was noisy. I REALLY wish they had included snap-to-size metal panels - if Velux can make snap-to-size exterior skylight flashing, why can't they have something similar? After the sheet metal was cut, assembly was simple - insert the inside and outside panel, tighten up the bolts, bend the bolts to break off the extra material, and install the plastic trim clips. Done! On the big test ...(drum roll)... would our dog use it? I should have said that we made sure our dog was happy with it before we installed it. I got a couple of pieces of sliced deli ham (lunch meat) and coaxed our little guy through it sitting in the living room. Only took a few tries, and not even a whole slice of ham before he was going back and forth to collect his treat. Back to the story - got another slice of ham, and within a few seconds, he was coming and going with no resistance to collect his little bits of ham. I think we have gotten over the hump. I don't know yet if he will use it without a treat, but think it will be pretty easy to taper the rewards, especially once he realizes he can come and go when he wants now. If you got this far, you may wonder why I gave it four stars instead of five - first, the sheet metal liners are just a pain and should somehow be better. Second, the sheet metal liners should be painted/coated and not left in bare aluminum. It is not a pretty feature. Third, the big weird problem is this - I believe they intend for you to install this with the hinge side of the frame facing out (with the weather seals facing out). The plastic cover also goes on the hinge side of the frame - which is the outside. So, it gets late and you want to "lock" the door by installing the cover? heard a weird noise and want to make sure a racoon isn't trying to get in? you would have to go outside to install the cover! It seems completely counter intuitive. And, I am not worried about a human crawling through a small size doggy door, but if I had a larger one, I would like the cover to be on the inside, and really lockable, so it couldn't easily be removed by a stranger.

This Endura Flap pet door is a good looking, high quality product. It has an black aluminum frame that goes well with the dark brown trim on the house. This model has the single flap. It measures eleven inches tall by six inches wide and is sized for a small animal. The flap swings easily in and out and catches to close with a magnet near the bottom. This kit comes with a multi size template to insure cutting of the hole is the correct size for the flap. There is a medium and large size available for larger pets. A tall one for patio doors also. It does comes in white and tan to blend with color scheme. It is energy efficient and keeps the wind out.
