How much to apply when planting?
              ByMay 21, 2024
              1 Answer |
              Answer This Question

Thank you for your question. It will depend on what you're planting, but here are some guidelines; Bulbs and Gardens: Apply at a rate of 10 pounds per 100 sq. ft., raking it well into the soil. For individual bulbs, mix 1 teaspoon of Bone Meal into the soil. Shrubs and Trees: Apply 1 or 2 pounds depending upon size of shrub or tree. Rake well into soil under entire spread of shrub or tree. Potted Plants: Apply 2 oz or one heaping tablespoon per pot and work into the soil. Water thoroughly after applying. It stops end rot!
This seems to be helping with end rot on my tomatoes. Overall, I am extremely happy with this product. The product itself doesn't have a foul odor like some of the other products that are made for plants.

An excellent addition to any garden. Bone meal is the best when it comes to increasing yields and maintaining a healthy plant. I've been using Espoma products for decades and have found them to be a very trustworthy brand for all types of garden fertilizers and supplements.

Good product. Def recommended as a supplement to main fertilizer if you have deficiencies in your soil. My raised bed soil was lacking and I was getting blossom end rot. No more!! I add a small amount of this every 2-3 weeks through the peak growing season and everything is fine. The photo is from a mid-week harvest.

                  Torn packaging, poor staff handling
The package of bone meal had a hole in it, which was known when the staff put the bag into the shipping box. The staff put the leaking bag into a plastic bag then into the box to ship. The product spilled from original packaging into the plastic bag. Poor staff handling.

It’s bone meal. I bought to ward off bunny rabbits in my garden but was great to have on hand because I planted a very large tree. The tree was only I shock 25 hours, not sure if the bonemeal helped that or not but it is great to have directly into the root ball.

When I first set up my garden a few years ago I lost quite a few tomatoes because of blossom end rot. After looking into it I discovered that one of the main reasons for that is lack of available calcium in the soil. So I started adding a heaping spoonful of this bone meal to the planting hole every year when I plant and since then I rarely lose a tomato because of blossom end rot. Great stuff!
